Le Market Glatt Kosher, 12516 Burbank Blvd., Los Angeles (Valley Village), CA 91607
I was waiting for my order at Hummus Yummy when I spotted Le Market. It’s a tiny grocery store, so I wasn’t immediately interested but the deli salads caught my eye. It’s a kosher market and I think the only one in the San Fernando Valley area (most kosher markets are in the Pico-Robertson/Fairfax area). The meat is Glatt Kosher. They carried baked goods (bread, bagels, cookies) from Sam’s Kosher Bakery (located one block away).
The market’s shelves are full and the aisles are narrow. They carry wine, spices, nuts, fresh produce, canned goods, pasta, rice, snacks, cheese, dairy, eggs, etc. Some items are imported from Israel. It’s interesting how kosher markets have different brands that one rarely sees elsewhere (e.g., Gefen, Klein’s, Hafla, Norman’s). They also had some mainstream brands that meet their standards as a kosher market.
The place was clean but not everything had prices. The refrigerated case had deli salads, olives, pickles, and dips, hummus, and deli meats (some imported from Israel).
Baba ghanouj: Looked housemade…not as creamy as other versions and somewhat bitter, I could see the eggplant seeds
Chickpea salad: Looked housemade. Simple, good, flavored with saffron and chili oil
Spicy eggplant dip with bell peppers: Slightly chunky, flavorful condiment, housemade?
Hafla classic hummus: Smooth, thick, creamy, really good
I still have to try the labne and Israeli snacks that I bought
The sushi place next door is owned by the brother of Le Market’s owner. It’s kosher too.
