Glissa, the Outcast
A piece of Magic: The Gathering fanart I've been meaning to do for awhile. Kind of a "what if?" piece imagining a de-Phyrexianized Glissa somehow winding up on Zhalfir during the planar switch. Maybe something to do with her old planeswalker spark or her tie to Mirrodin's green moon.
Phyrexian Portraits (2024)
Some are a bit obscure, but they all have cards. :)
Done in the style of the Pokémon PSS from gen 6.
NPC Stat Block: Glissa Sunslayer (D&D 5e)
The elven warrior Glissa Sunseeker was once an exemplar of her people, named by Mirrodin's creator as a guardian of the plane. She defeated Memnarch but returned to a people that scorned her, believing she had betrayed them and caused the vanishing of their elders. Short of options, Glissa retreated into Mirrodin's core and was compleated by the praetor Vorinclex, who would become her closest companion. In the years before Phyrexia's emergence, Glissa founded the Vicious Swarm and covertly established a foothold in the Tangle. She is praetor of the Swarm in everything but name, and brutally drives forward its ideal of survival of the fittest.
Glissa's Traits
Ideal: "To forget thought and obey one's instincts is the only true way to live."
Bond: "Together with Vorinclex, I will bring about a new Phyrexia where strength is all that matters."
Flaw: "I scorn the nurturing of the weak. Anything less than savage predation is soft-hearted coddling."
One of Glissa's spells, corrosive gale, is new in Plane Shift: Mirrodin/New Phyrexia.
This is the first of the NPC stat blocks in my homebrew D&D 5e supplement, Plane Shift: Mirrodin/New Phyrexia, that I'm willing to call finished--though as with everything PS:MNP that I post, no wording is final and it is all subject to adjustment.
my localization of mtgjp's comic
Glissa Sunseeker was an odd elf protagonist, visually. She has a wood elf body, high elf personality, with resting Drow Matriarch face
what do glissa and tezzeret think of each other? they're kind of filling the same role on opposite sides of the jinclex divorce, right?
for that matter, what do jin and vorinclex think of glissa and tezzeret (respectively)
At the very least, Glissa has hunger in her. That is the most I can say about that. She squanders her hunger with her hatred of the mind. A revolting display, really. Her company is another of the indignities Phyrexia foists upon me. -Tezzeret
Tezzeret is useful to Phyrexia for now, as long as the Swarm must tolerate the company of the Orthodoxy and the Progress Engine, before their charade of civilization fails them. I do, of course, loathe him. Like Jin-Gitaxias and his ilk, he covers himself in artifice and lies. All of it fails to cover the stench of his weakness. How I would enjoy disassembling him, piece by piece--but not before teaching him the thrill of his last hunt. How much of his heart is still flesh? How much would still bleed, beating, between my teeth? -Glissa
THE NOT-US IS NEARLY AS INSUFFERABLE AS JIN-GITAXIAS AND JUST AS MUCH OF A WASTE. HE WANTS TO FIGHT HIS WAY TO THE TOP. GOOD! BUT HIS METAL TOYS WILL NEVER TAKE HIM THERE. I WILL TEST HIM THE DAY HE LEARNS TRUE STRENGTH. -V
Glissa is a dangerous enemy of Progress. She has always whispered to Vorinclex with her lies, and performs with him a perverted mockery of Phyrexian science. She imitates nature with flesh. Even as she denies the enlightenment of the Great Synthesis, she flails in imitation of its methods. All the while they simper to one another, playacting as beasts. I could nearly be humiliated looking upon them. -J
