You know I kinda hate that the show never addressed the parallels between Tom’s family and his relationship with star vs Eclipsa family The connections are RIGHT THERE and it was never addressed
i think because it’s so OBVIOUS that it sucks that they didn’t do anything interesting with the concept
I’ve talked about this before, but as much as i love tom’s new parents, and trust me, i LOVE the idea and stuff behind them.
the fact they’re a mewman/monster couple now is very insignificant to anything that happens in the show
it’s never discussed, it doesn’t mean much plot-wise, and as far as where tom stands in the monster conflict….makes little difference. Tom’s monster speech is really cool, but he could’ve made it as a full monster, being half monster doesn’t really matter by the time the show ends.
and that’s odd, because outside of meteora, tom is the only half breed we really actually meet (Celena’s parentage is never mentioned in the show so that doesn’t count).
like, ok, the show has more monster/mewman couples in it, but tom’s family being so CLOSE to eclipsa’s is just begging to have comparisons or debates. Two couples, with monster/mewman kids who have secret tails, composed of a tiny mewman and their giant monster SO with horns, multiple eyes, tails, and powers and you don’t think people are gonna see parallels involved?
especially the fact that when we watch CS, what made them stand out so much to us viewers, is the fact tom’s family is the ONLY couple like them who run a kingdom. They raise so many questions, is it rare to have mixed couples take a throne? Was this acceptable for specific reasons? What’s it like for a mewman to run a monster kingdom?
Like, why does the show draw so much interesting comparisons to these two famlies, and not do anything with that idea? It would be interesting to hear Eclipsa’s opinion on this or get insight into what makes the lucitor kingdom different but it never comes up.

Like this is a show talking about race with monsters, making tom mixed and his parents a monster and mewman couple should be a REALLY important thing in that discussion but nothing is done with it.
So why even make Dave mewman? His original draft was a demon, and he was abusive, and i’m fine with him being mewman if that change served a purpose…but we don’t really have the show give it a purpose because it doesn’t really impact tom much and Dave himself is not a character we get to know much.
like, i love tom’s parents, however….
the removal of tom’s original abusive plotline is the removal of what would’ve been a vital part of his character, a serious growth for him (Which was probably handed to ludo in the end).
if you’re going to take it out, you need to replace it with something as important, and you didn’t really do that. Because if all you replaced it with was giving his parents nothing, and just using tom as a love interest….that’s not a very good trade.
Who knows if a season 5 would’ve done anything with it or not, because it doesn’t entirely seem that way, especially since eclipsa meeting with other kingdoms would’ve been a GREAT opportunity to have this discussion and meet-up and they decided to not show it at all.
like they had opportunities, even to have tom babysit meteora could’ve been neat, but they spent most of those scenes to have meteora hate marco more then anything, for laughs.
even meteora being the bind between monsters and mewmans doesn’t end up mattering in the end because her family no longer gets to rule mewni because of star.
there are pieces here but no one used them, they made cool ideas and never paid them off in a way that feels right.
Tom’s parents are two characters that i feel like could’ve been more important to the monster conflict and could’ve been interesting to learn more about, what it’s like for them, how they raised tom, their relationships with tom (Dave really got the short end of the stick with that one considering he was originally a more important character).
like, as much as i like the IDEA of them, and the IDEA of tom being a hybrid, the show should’ve done something with it, and they missed all the opportunities they could’ve had for it.
Because it’s a REALLY good idea and it could’ve made tom more important as a character, but if you’re not gonna go anywhere with it, then why bother?
Don’t make them and tom into these interesting parallels to eclipsa in a show about monster and mewman racism and not have it mean anything, because this family was just BEGGING to be explored in terms of that plot.
I wasn’t asking for them to be huge major characters, but, they feel like they should’ve been used for more then what they were.
