a group of solemn gnomes in black clothes and black pointed caps stand out in the rain and look down at an open casket. it contains a single rotten zucchini. one of them can't take it anymore and he turns away, crying into his wife's strong arms. the casket is closed and lowered into the grave. some of the gnomes salute, others bow their heads to pray. this happens literally every time

Gnomeposting has always had a thread of violence running thru it bc the contrast of serious bloodshed and tiny little cartoon gnomes is of course an easy and effective form of comedy but during its heyday in 2023ish I feel like it was interspersed between earnest and kind gnomeposting. The gnomeposting of late 2025 sees the earnestness fall away because like any long-explored genre there grows a fatigue for genuine enjoyment of the source and so it must be altered or bait-and-switch’d to freshen up the concept and prolong its lifespan. I had a timeline typed out but I lost the file so yall will just have to take my word on this

So far Tumblr has gnomeposting, hobbitposting, and orcposting as going trends, but no one has yet successfully popularised elfposting, which is something for which we should all be grateful.
