1. What made you ship it?

Definitely Gobber and Eret’s interactions in the third movie. I think the writers/animators were definitely trying to hint at something — Gobber throwing the bouquet and Eret catching it, that whole “body of a norse god” comment lmao, little details like that.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Honestly it just seems really sweet. It’s kind of an unlikely pairing that I never would have thought of (probs because, you know, gobber is 30 years older than eret) but once the animators started throwing those little details in it just seemed like a really sweet ship?? The little shoulder push thing they do at the end when the dragons leave is very soft and nice?? You know?

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Honestly idk how popular this is but i actually don’t really see a problem with the age gap. I’m not one to ship couples with significant age gaps, so I’m not really sure why gobberet appeals to me. I think the problem with big age gaps is that they come with major power imbalances, which is maybe why I don’t have a problem with this particular one, because that power imbalance doesn’t seem to be here with this ship. I mean, eret is 26, he’s a grown adult, he’s smart and mature. Neither of them seem to have any power over the other in any way, due to their age or any other factors. I think once the younger character is old and mature enough to make their own decisions and hold their own in a relationship, an age gap isn’t inherently bad you know?? Also it’s not real, it’s definitely fictional lol, and the ship is only lightly implied at most anyway, so I don’t see it as something worth a ton of concern. Anyways that was a little more wordy than I expected lmao.

About the five headcanon thing. Gobber?

message me a character and i’ll tell you five headcanons i have about them

Gobber has had a lowkey crush on Stoick for a very long time. As in, over a decade. There’s a mutual unspoken understanding that they’ll never go there. Gobber never bemoans this and is happy with his deep friendship with Stoick.

Eret is the first person Gobber’s been interested in since forever.

Gobber suggested the blacksmith apprenticeship to Stoick. He thought it’d be a good way to keep Hiccup occupied during the day (while Stoick was busy, and while the kid had already showed a penchant for starting disasters). Plus, it’d be useful.

Ever since Hiccup was young, Gobber was like a second father. He’s the person Hiccup has always spoken more freely to. While Hiccup and Stoick’s strained relationship in HTTYD is more pronounced since Hiccup became a teen, he’s often gone to Gobber first when feeling low.

Gobber is not as good on panpipes as he thinks he is. His band wasn’t very good. They did, however, get the “rowdy” feel down, and when you’re playing for a bunch of drunks, that’s all that matters.
