Son of Geb (Earth God) and Nut (Sky Goddess.) He wed his sister, goddess Isis (Aset), and they gave birth to Horus. The love between Osiris and Isis was legendary, and is depicted all over walls in tombs, and on papyrus scrolls. Osiris is often considered the first legitimate leader of Egypt. He is said to have brought order and quell chaos. He is a god of agriculture, death, rebirth & resurrection. He was known to be a kind and benevolent leader; some depictions of him have him smiling. When he passed away and entered the Underworld, his presence was welcome, as he is not a deity to be feared. He is merciful and forgiving. Why is he green in the image above? Osiris was often depicted as green because he is associated with vegetation and is a god of agriculture. He is sometimes shown as a mummy in white, which can also be seen in the above image. In addition, he can be depicted in black-- as he is also a god of death and resurrection. The green, white, & black colors were also indications of the fact that Osiris had passed. Each harvest, he symbolically dies, and is resurrected as the inundation returns. There were a couple festivals dedicated to Osiris. One in November, to celebrate his beauty, and a festival of mourning called “Fall of the Nile.” Even celebrations surrounding this deity deal with life and death. Witches may choose to celebrate Osiris on Ostara.

Alters to Osiris?
I feel like Osiris occupies too little space on my alter. But, at the same time, I grow plants for him, which seems like an alter in and of itself in some ways. Still, I was wondering, what sorts of things do all of you out there like to do for him on your alters?
