what wee need to know.
- You said this goes away. So, what’s the time frame on that? - It’s different, for different people, I suppose. - For me. When will this be over for me? - Well, here’s what’s gonna happen. One day... One day, you’re gonna wake up, eat your breakfast, brush your teeth, go about your business. And sooner or later, you’re gonna realize you haven’t thought about it. None of it. And that’s the moment you realize you can forget. When you know that’s possible, it all gets easier.

1/2 "like I frequently tell myself that about zero people are interested in The Ice Plague or that everyone is going to hate it" ASFASBGAG I cannot even fathom how you could...?!?!! Okay, no - obviously people feel what they feel, as an artist I know how much fear and self-doubt one can have about their own work. But KNAFNAFG PIA, YOUR WORK IS SO AMAZING AND I KNOW SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME ARE 15896562% HYPED FOR TIP!!!
2/2 I sometimes really have the need to disappear from internet societies and I don't come to tumblr for long months, but you are always an exception. I've been following and reading all your work since you've finished ISWF and I fell in love with the worlds you create. No matter what happens IRL I always check on this blog every couple of days and I never get tired of rereading your stuff. Words cannot EXPRESS how excited I am for TIP!! You keep being awesome, Pia♥

Haha, I wish I could say my ability to talk myself out of writing projects was logical but for the most part it’s just insane and very intimidating. And The Ice Plague has been extra challenging for a few reasons, which is like - the format is different, it’s an adventure/quest format, which is extremely ‘classic’ fantasy in terms of tropes. I mean in the first five chapters alone, the characters travel (not by portal or teleportation mind, Mosk and Eran are both too young to teleport) to a tavern, to a town, to three taverns in that town, to the Seelie Court, go through a few forests, find another town, go to a farm, and finally end up in the Unseelie Court, and they’re only there for about 2/3 chapters.
So there’s a lot of small action sequences of the kind I didn’t really have to write about during Game Theory or even The Court of Five Thrones (on a plus, SAL and TGATNW both have lots of action / movement sequences so while I know I can write it, it’s just intimidating placing it in the Fae Tales universe).
It took me a long time to even want to write Eran, idk why? He’s... hard to get to know. It actually really helped writing the first few chapters from his perspective (I adore him now, he’s my angry flamebaby who just wants to Do Good), but it made me really sure that everyone else wouldn’t want to connect with him too. And I’m realistic enough to know some people will go ‘well these obviously aren’t Augus/Gwyn so I’m not reading.’
And then there’s just... like, the size of the commitment? I know it’s going to be about 2-3 years of my life at least. Once I start, I won’t want to leave it hanging or on hiatus, it’s a little like deciding to own a really huge, hungry pet that likes eating time and resources, but rewards with like exciting moments or sharing intimate truths or being a really great friend - but, it’s still like: ‘do I have room for a giant story rhinoceros running around my mind for three years’ look I know that analogy is terrible but it’s working for me, lol.
But you know, I have committed :D and I am writing it, and I’m enjoying it - I’ve reread the first chapters so many times now and I like them still.
And just as much, there’s folks like yourself who come into my inbox (and in the replies) and talk about how you’re looking forward to it so much and like, you have no idea how much that helps, and how much that gets me amped to release it to you folks. Especially knowing that I now have like... six chapters already, and I’m also kind of proud of the story? Maybe people will hate the plot, but I honestly think... well, I really hope that it’s good. I’ve been working on it for a long time.
Hnnnghhh, soon. Soon. Four more chapters to write (between TGA and Blackwood) and then we go to official launch. <3
