Hello!! I Haven't Seen Much Of Your Art These Days, I Hope You're Doing Well! 😊
Hello!! YES! I am doing alright now! Besides being busy alot, oy… but yes, sorry for lack of content and updates. I’ve been busy with IRL and work and art for con. So.. I’ve been doign art, just not stuff I can show you guys yet! BUT! I’ll try to put up some commissions I’ve done in a bit! For now, here’s some doodly goldfish!mer!Marco & Jean washing themselves with a kind of seaweed or kelp they have, idk. They gotta stay clean and nice <3
Aaaand that's how it ended. SORRY FOR THE ANTI-CLIMATIC ENDING. And not to mention that I just kinda.. speed doodled it. BUT! I wanted to get it done so I can draw them doing other things! I've been stuck on drawing this ending for a whiiiileee now, as you probably noticed lol. But I wanted to clear it up and atleast show you how it ended in some way! And I got over this hurdle and can now draw them being dorks again!
SO! Lesson was: don't neglect your goldfish. Especially if they are mer!goldfish. Mer!Marco and Jean are safe. Marco only got a bruise on his shoulder and had to do some breathing exersizes, but otherwise he's fine. Well, besides the caution he has now about going over the bowl. Jean however got a bruised chest, which isn't good at all. He landed rougher and was without water longer due to how he gave what he had to calm Marco, so he has a chest patch that is to help him breathe better and ease the pain of the bruise blooming there. But they will both be fine. Jean is very unused to having someone his size fuss over him and give him so much attention, but mother hen Mer!marco is just as strong as human!Marco when it comes to caring for others. Tangling tails when resting is a very intimate thing, and Marco began doing it as soon as they were together again. Marco has in a way already claimed Jean into his family in the Mer!manner. And although he can't say it, but Mer!Jean doesn't really mind it...
Now Human!Jean & Marco will have to up their skills and somehow figure out a way to schedule Mer!Fish meetings with eachother, since the other two are so close to eachother now. Not that they mind, huehue.
Guys. GUYS. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW HUMBLED I AM OVER THE LOVE THIS SILLY LITTLE AU HAS GOTTEN. I MEAN... SERIOUSLY??
I can't believe that it even has it's own little fanfic! @themarginalthinker freaking continued to write a PART 2 AS WELL. WHAT EVEN. I MEAN. SERIOUSLY!? THAT IS AMAZING. HOW DO YOU DO THIS MAGIC?? ( ' [] ') ??
Uhm uhm, I'm so-- just--.. I just wanted to say how happy I am! How happy YOU GUYS have made me! Fanart, fanfic, kind words in general... You guys are so sweet it hurts sometimes from the smiles I get while reading the tags that you leave and I just--aaaaahh.
This is just a silly little thing I do because it's a mix of things that I love and it's great practise for me. But I also love coming up with stories for the things i draw, and because of you guys, I get to come up with MORE things because of how you all inspire me!
In short: you are all amazing and make me so happy with all the little things that I do with you all. Thank you <3
So… I’m sorry for the long interval, and thought I honestly didn’t think I would be continuing this..but .here’s the next part of the story. I don’t know if it matches your canon, but I hope you like it! Thank you!
-credit for the au goes to it’s creator catofblue. I do not own the characters.
Jean stood by the desk, Hanji furiously tapping away at the keys, a steady stream of information flowing from their mouth, most of which was lost on the befuddled man. Sasha herself looked all too pleased at this little exchange, chatting back happily with the agent whenever Jean’s tongue failed him. It seemed to have permanently left him then, anyway – all his attention was focused on the tough plastic travel case in his hands, the standard first-timer glass bowl packed away into a box along with a baggie of glass beads for the floor of the bowl and booklets and pamphlets on the care and keeping of mers too numerous to name.
The mer itself was busy spinning in dizzying circles around the travel tank, sporadically surfacing to bat at the human’s hands with a chirp and duck down again, as Jean hadn’t thought to clip the safety cover on it yet. Jean was left staring at the little thing as it managed somehow to perform complex loop-de-loops and spirals, flashing all those pretty amber scales in the cramped area barely a half foot-by-foot in space. If he was being honest with himself, he didn’t even remember the agreement to take the thing – a trial period of a month was standard, Hanji had said – or signing the papers, but, here the mer was, tucked safely into his hands.
All his responsibility, now. To protect and care for and cherish and Love.
Terrifying.
~oOo~
The mer chowed down on the egg slice, the flesh soft enough it could tear chunks off and swallow. Jean himself settled back, sprinkling a little salt to his egg and munching as well.
Ok. So, eggs were alright. Good to know.
The little thing was making all these – he wasn’t afraid to admit it either – rather adorable tiny sounds. Murmurs and whispers of appreciation and delight, wiggling with unrestrained joy at the simple treat. Dinner had very nearly been an utter disaster - first with the mer making it known loud and clear it was hungry, startling Jean and causing confusion over what the creature might be crying about, then Jean fumbling about for almost an hour trying to find something he could give the creature when he figured out what the fuss was about. All the pamphlets from the Agency said mers were not greatly picky, but that large amounts of concentrated sugar or salt could be harmful. Treats like soft-cooked rice, scrambled eggs, or fresh soft veggies could be good when given in moderation with the vitamin supplements supplied by the Agency…So, the two settled for hard-boiled eggs, the whites of which being soft enough the mer could chew.
Jean felt his lips twitch, watching the creature with an interest he hadn’t felt about anything, even his favorite shows and books, in months. Watching the creature explore the new glass bowl and arrange the beads to its satisfaction, surfacing to take in all the details of Jean’s humble home and chittering melodically in unintelligible yet amiable conversation to aforementioned man had been…weirdly addicting. Just observing the mer going about whatever business it saw fit to attend to held his attention for a shocking amount of time - actually kept him interested, that was, instead of blankly staring off into space for minutes at a time, seeing but not really.
Of course, his smile slipping before it’d even had a chance to fully form, this feeling was probably just because the thing was new, and as soon as feeding it and watching it and caring for it stopped being new, this feeling would go away quickly enough. It always did.
The two finished their (for Jean anyway) meager meal mostly in silence. Throwing away the shells and setting aside the salt shaker, placing the used pot into the dishwasher and making sure the counters were free of water puddles, Jean now stood alone in the florescent light of the kitchen. At a loss. The man stared at the newest apartment addition, seemingly unable to keep his eyes away, unable to blend the bowl into the background of the small lounge – it was too…new! The mer in question had finished its meal, and was licking and gnawing its nails, cleaning. Rubbing minuscule hands where skin met scales, preening the sheen on those already-glittering plates. Like a hawk straightening it’s feathers after a hunt.
The other watched, riveted, most thoughts leaving his head in place of the mer’s after-meal routine; even the more melancholy ones taking a backseat for the moment. Jean was struck dumb. What…what did he do now? Jean glanced around the kitchen, back to the mer, then back again. His nights spent alone had never been exactly rowdy or memorable, even before his mother’s passing. After he was alone, he’d mostly just eat something small for supper, if he could stomach it or remembered to do so, sit in the lounge with the tv on for background noise, and then move to the bedroom when the buzzing in his head got to be too much – or he sunk too low to move, and fell unconscious without leaving the couch or even laying down. But…no-one needed to know that…
Jean had abruptly realized…he couldn’t do that anymore. And that was frightening. Jarring. Enough so to distract him from the object of his anxieties for a moment. What if…what if…Jean was ok, really, for the most part. His bad days didn’t last so long anymore, and when they did it wasn’t all so terrible…
but what if.
He couldn’t just forget dinner anymore or any meals for that matter, because this creature needed to eat too, probably more times a day then him as well. The water, unless he got a bigger tank with a proper mechanized filtration system, needed hand-cleaning, every three days or so, glass pebbles and all. He couldn’t just pass out and stop for hours, days, because the mer needed interaction – attention paid to it that wasn’t cleaning or feeding; he’d remembered Hanji stating that stipulation quite clearly - the look he’d received while being given the order was kinda scary. The mer needed a caretaker, and a friend.
And as Jean was starting to realize, mind wandering over the empty cloudy emotional void of the past months…
maybe so did he.
~oOo~
His Big One sure was odd. Made such a fuss over the meal, even when he had ended up eating exactly the same thing as Marco. Always flustered even though this was his home, running hands through spiky bright blond hair, casting lingering glances at Marco when he thought the Mer wasn’t looking. So odd…
The Light had stayed for a little while longer after mealtime then when he’d been with the others. Marco would admit, it threw him a little. Normally, every day was such a stable pattern of events, but now, well, he supposed now there would be no such thing. This was not the Tank anymore. This was His Big One’s home, and here, things were greatly different. Even the food! And what food it was…
Marco ran his tongue over his sharp teeth in the dark of his bowl, still tasting the odd squishy-white he and his guardian had consumed. It had been…interesting. Never tried it before, but most certainly would be more than willing to have more! His Big One had stayed awake for a while, fidgeting, milling here and there, so restless within his own territory. It worried Marco some. Then again, the mer surmised, Marco was an ‘invader’ into this place, and it made sense for his new guardian to feel uncertain about how to approach him or how to help meld Marco into the landscape of the home. He would give the Big One lots of time – this must be as big of an adjustment for him as it was for Marco! He’d left the mer’s line of sight some time ago, after mumbling a jumbled little tune to Marco, as Big Ones were wont to do,(they weren’t very good singers, the poor dears), and took away the Light. Marco supposed the blond male had gone to sleep in some unseen alcove.
Marco wished he could join him…
The mer shifted, squirming down until he was properly buried in the stones of his nest, listening to the alien sounds of his new home. Sleepily, he wondered if anyone else but they two lived here. Thumps and very indistinct muffled voices from somewhere Outside created minute vibrations in the water, shuddering through the mer’s tiny form. It was but a passing thought though, and soon, belly full and snuggled warmly in his nook, Marco drifted to dreams.
OH MY GOSH, THIS IS SO LATE BUT YES OMG, I HAVE THIS FOR YOU, MY SWEET SUMMER CHILD. AHHH BLESS YOUR FACE, I'M SO SORRY FOR BEING SLOW. AHAHAHA.
I've actually been DYING to reply to this because that last headcanon you suggested is SPOT ON! Yes! Mer!Marco likes the mild sweet things like cucumbers and carrots etc, but Mer!Jean likes the more Acidic sweet things; such as strawberry slices! Just like Mer!Marco, he just kinda nibbles on it and licks it. Their jaws aren't that strong so, yeah, mush it to death as best you can ya' lil' grump! <3
Mer!Marco doesn't really like the acidic sweets like Mer!Jean does, and finds the flavour to be like how we would react to eating lemons. But the grump just loooves it. Grapes are pretty awesome too. And the small seeds are fun to spit at Human!Jean and Human!Marco when he feels mischevious. mwehehe.
I hope your heart has healed at least a bit by now, and if not, I hope that this will help you! Weehh! Again, sorry I was so late with this, but I was having another Goldfish!AU break. ehehehe. I MISSED THEM SO MUCH. AH <3
She requested that I draw her Snk OC; Maria Rose, together with Human!Jean and Goldfish!Marco from my Goldfish!AU. <3
I had a blast doing this, and I did it surprisingly fast for being me, hehe! But I wanted it done before new years, so yeah! Here you go! I hope to do more raffles in the future, because I absolutely love drawing suggested things, and not to mention to give ya'll some personal love. <3
But yeah, Goldfish!Mermarco is always excited to see HUMANS who have the same kind of strange flecks of spots on them as he does! Happy lil' fishbutt is happy.
Thank you all, and I look forward to what the future will bring. More art, more fishbutts, and more love and smiles to share.
