One of my biggest heroes and idols passed away today, live life to the fullest! It can be taken away in an instant...
Still thinking about @nicky_hayden and his 2006 World Championship year. He took some flack for not dominating but it was 100% Nicky, pure grit, hard work, and determination. And always humble and always a sportsman. He will be missed but he set a great example for the next generation to follow. And then I found this book on the shelf, published by @honda_powersports_us to commemorate an epic year. #motorcycle #motorcycles #GoNicky #NickyHayden #MotoGP #motorcycleracing #LagunaSeca #rideonkentuckykid

Nicky “The Kentucky Kid” Hayden, 1981–2017. World Champion motorcycle racer. Hayden was out training on his bicycle when struck by a car. We lost a great talent and a true gentleman. In 2006, Hayden was leading the world championship with two races to go when his own teammate crashed into him and knocked both of them out of the race. In an instant it seemed like his dreams were gone. The cameras showed him on the side of the track yelling and screaming. When the race was over, Hayden had dropped to second in the World Championship behind Valentino Rossi, one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time. Later, his teammate (Dani Pedrosa) went to visit Hayden in Hayden’s RV to apologize for the crash. Hayden was still quite upset but had calmed down and, according to Pedrosa, did not berate him. Years later, Pedrosa noted that Hayden did not speak badly of Pedrosa or blame him to the media or anyone which, if you follow motorcycle racing, is quite common and in some cases expected. It was a valuable lesson for Pedrosa, an up and coming young racer at the time, and one that Pedrosa has learned well; he is well-regarded and well-respected by the racing community. In a miraculous last race, Hayden ends up, against all odds, winning the 2006 World Championship. It is a stunning achievement and truly rare air; you could put all the people that have been premier class world champions on a bus and the bus would not be full. But it was in those darkest days after the crash with Pedrosa that Nicky Hayden showed his true character and his true humanity, and that is what the world has lost. #motorcycle #motorcycles #GoNicky #NickyHayden #MotoGP #motorcycleracing #LagunaSeca @nicky_hayden
#gonicky #ayrton #mychurch #LAMIAPACE #santuario #donnaracing #peace #CREDERESEMPRE #MOLLAREMAI #VITA (presso Ayrton Senna Memorial)
