S9EP10 "Field of Dreams"
I think I jumped the gun when I said this episode is about how “Morty also feeds Rick's bad tendencies and makes him worse”.
Morty is a 14 year old boy.
Does he have some sway over what Rick does? Sure! But the scales between them is so imbalanced. Morty doesn’t purposely make Good Rick OR C137 backslide, he doesn’t ruin his relationship (directly), and he doesn’t make him trash the lab.
Rick is a grown ass man who makes those choices himself over and over and over again because of his own ego.
This line (and the one that follows) especially fascinates me because it tells us two things. First off it tells us that Morty feels entitled to Rick, and why on earth wouldn't he? Their relationship is the only constant in the universe!
But more importantly, like this is another fucking adult saying it’s Morty’s fault????? For the short time we see Good Rick's wife I like her but wtf??? He’s a child. How is he responsible for ruining your marriage?
And he kinda is but not because of any purposeful choice, you the adult are actively failing him! Everyone in this Good dimension gives Rick strict boundaries and even cuts him off but Morty DOESN'T. Morty is a child who so desperately wants to be loved and needed and cared for, that he lets Rick stomp all over him and THAT’S the problem.
Morty doesn’t make Rick worse. Good Rick becomes worse because he finally has someone to exploit.
And isn't that better than being alone? Doesn't that make all the damage worth it? Morty certainly seems to think so.
