It has been a long day-- a really long day.
After leaving the house to get groceries, you got your period. This was on top of the already horrible past few days you had. You have felt depressed and uncomfortable in your skin. Of course, it wasn't until your period actually started that you connected the dots on why you felt this way the past few days.
You were running low on energy from the lack of sleep you had. Why did you have to wake up numerous times throughout your normal time reserved for rest??.. You couldn't just sleep in when you already promised Gorou that you would pick up more groceries for you both, right?
I mean, sure, Gorou would understand!.. But when you woke up this morning, you thought you would feel better once you had more food in the house to choose from, at least. Plus, you wouldn't have to do it even later or rely on Gorou, who you already felt guilty about relying on for other chores (when he already has so much of his own things to do). And of course it was while you were getting food from the market that it hit. The floodgates opened, but at least you had some sort of product in your bag to manage it.
After dragging yourself back into your shared home, you forced yourself to put away anything that needed to be kept cold so you could get back into bed and to sleep off your cramps. Even though you were so ready to crash and stay in bed, you realized that you forgot to buy something else from the shopping list while you were out. Dammit. And it was with this realization that your frustration from the day started to pour out. After sighing and tossing down the (now empty) grocery bag in the kitchen, you grunted. You were so frustrated with yourself. Deep down yeah, you knew Gorou wouldn't care that you forgot something!... But you still felt so... useless. It was with these thoughts that your legs carried you to your bed.
After crawling up into a ball in order to hold yourself through your sobs and physical pain, you eventually fell asleep. Perhaps when you wake up, these problems will just fade away…
Some time later, you believe you hear a door open and perhaps somebody saying something. Being that you weren’t really awake, you tried to ignore it and fall back to sleep. A few moments later you hear the bedroom door slide open.
“Oh, there you are!” Gorou said with a sigh as he made his way over to your side of the bed as you started to actually wake up. After rubbing your eyes, there Gorou was- right in front of you, crouched down to your level.
“Hey… are you doing alright? I don’t normally find you like this-- in bed I mean-- when I get home.” Gorou says, words clearly laced with concern. Once your eyes focus on him, you sigh and immediately start pulling your eyes away from his person. Pursing your lips, you try to find an answer to offer him. Your eyebrows furrow at the lack of anything to respond with.
Gorou places his knees down beside your shared bed before slowly reaching for your shoulder. Without seeing any sign that you were uncomfortable with his touch, he softly caressed the skin along your upper arm. With a small sigh, and his ears turned downcast, he speaks again.
“Do… do you want to talk about it? Whatever it is that is bothering you?... I mean, of course you don’t have to, you know! I just-” he sighs again. During a pause, he notices your legs curled inward while one of your arms tightly presses below your abdominal area. He looks back toward your eyes, which are still turned away from him, as one of his ears slightly rises up. He does the mental math: you’re menstruating.
He sighs again. Quietly, he speaks. “Would you like for me to lay with your for a while? I can make dinner tonight if you’d like!.. And I noticed you got some groceries! I know I don’t have to thank you for that, but still! I know that must have been a struggle for you today… so, thank you.” With both of his ears alert, and his head tilted to reach the angle of your own, he touches your nose with his own as he holds a weak smile. With that, you look into his eyes. It’s hard not to offer any sort of smile in return. After another sigh, you nod your head a couple of times while reaching for the hand he had on your arm. You squeeze his hand slightly, as if to say “thank you” for his willingness to stay in bed with you, even if it's for a little bit. He nods in understanding before squeezing back. As he got up, he left a light kiss to the side of your face before you both slowly let go of each other. You hear him shuffle over to the other side of the futon and soon feel some of his weight press into it as he comes closer to you once more. After getting under the covers, he holds your frame from behind and nuzzles into the crook of your neck.
With an arm snaked around your middle he quietly asks: “Is this alright?” You nod before pressing into him for warmth.
“Yeah… thank you.”
He lightly kisses your neck. “You never have to thank me,” he nearly whispers, before lightly squeezing below your stomach. "Get some sleep, I will be here when you wake up— especially since I will be making sure you eat dinner.”
His last statement makes you let out a small laugh before responding: "Ok.”
