Au'ra April Day 27: Heartache
"My lord, are you sure?" Fy'ra must have asked Hien this question more than a Namazu lies in a day. Yet she stuck by the man she saw as a true leader, with a goal and a vision of healing. As the healing began however, she began to notice his failings. Neither that man's temper nor his heart were tameable. One final time, one final "My lord, are you sure?" At Hien's defiant "Yes," she snapped. Forsaking her place among his entourage, Fy'ra struck back. Her sister joined in without a moment's delay and the two overwhelmed him before fleeing with their "captives" to safety. Or so she'd have you believe. This was but a vision of what could have been as Fy'ra cried outside Hien's door, pleading with him to explain his cruelty. His inattention and obstinance had led to the deaths of too many innocents. Too much blood was shared between their hands, and she could not wash her hands of it. She still considers herself lucky to have found Mikoto and Ty'llera when she did. Mikoto was strange and foreign enough to offer her shelter. She taught Fy'ra to read and gave her a reason to stay in Kugane, and even helped her join her sister's fight in Bozja. Ty'llera stayed by her side as her friends dispersed to attend to other peace efforts, and always fought to keep Fy'ra safe. It took a team to escape the new Lordling,
I said I had a lot of story ideas from Stormblood. It's the perfect place for hurt/comfort and messy romances. I fully latched on to Hien when I met him and the longer it's been since Stormblood, the more I find him difficult to appreciate. He's a well intentioned, kind man with a lot of ambition. He really thinks he can take on the world and win, but is reasonable about how he wants to get there. He cares so much for his people, and is scared after the recent history of regicide and genocide of his people. Yet his decisions aren't questioned, even when they should be. He holds such sway over those around him that it's hard to question him. Perhaps I'm projecting, but I felt that magnetism myself and the more I think about how Fy'ra got away, the more certain I am that it was toxic from the beginning. We just didn't know because we were missing the signs.
