"In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.The same was in the beginning with God.All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.In him was life; and the life was the light of men.And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehendeth it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to hear witness of the light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that light, but was sent to bear witness of that light. That was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not" - John 1:1-10
"The light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is in the law by which all things are governed, even the power of God who sitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of everything." - Doctrine and Covenants 88:13

When we are born into this earth we all have the light of Christ within us, it helps us to receive the spirit and guide us to the gospel. Its that innocence within us that we carry with us through childhood until we understand what is right and wrong depending on how we've been shaped by the world, or rather if we have been given the gospel. It tells him right and wrong and it is related to a mans conscience.
Christ, the Light:
The Saviour is sometimes described within the scriptures as a Light. In the darkness one would be drawn to a light or any form of light that they can see, as humans we would move towards the light to guide us out of the darkness. This happens when we use Christ in our lives, he is that light we are drawn to in a world of darkness and uncertainty, and Christ gives us that hope that we will make it out. Christ is the pure light, and not manufactured light, he is in everything.
During the time of the Saviours birth his light has been a very big symbol. The star above Bethlehem that guided the wise men was a form of light, it was a symbol to everyone of his birth and for a 3 day duration the earth had constant light (day). Fast forward to the time he died on the cross before he resurrected, the world was in complete darkness for 3 days until he was risen again. This literally symbolised for us as the human race our light was taken from us, Jesus Christ as our literal light was taken from us, until life was given again and he returned and so did the light.
Christ, the Life:
Christ created this earth in the beginning, he gave life to everything, to the plants, animals, seas, earth and us. The elements and nature runs by his command, they are under His Law. His light as D&C 88:13 states "giveths life to all things". When I was at institute last night Brother Summersell said Jesus being Life would have a different meaning to us all, because we each receive personal revelation so I'd like to talk about what came to my mind when he spoke of this. For me The Saviour has given me life, or in essence a chance at a new one. Previously to the church I was living in complete sin without his light and influence. I was reborn as it where when I was baptised and I was given a second chance at a life he wants for me. There's a saying that goes "I feel like I am living two lives" and it has felt like that for the past couple of months with me. This isn't how it should be in the Gospel, the life you're supposed to live is the one Heavenly Father and the Saviour have in store for you, not the one the world would have you live. Christ is the Life because through him we can be resurrected because he physically went through that process so we could when its time. Everything comes through him, and by him, he commands everything the light will touch.
The growth process in plants:
There is one key ingredient in the growth and development of plants and that is Light. Potatoes and sunflowers and everything will grow towards the light because they need it in order to survive. Ultimately if a plant receives no life, it will not reach its maximum potential, or in some cases, grow at all. Which is why in caves that receive no light from anywhere contain no life. Its impossible for anything to flourish or gather in such conditions. Just as plants need that light in order to grow, we need Christ to be able to become something for ourselves. We will grow in terms of the gospel, receiving blessings, making covenants, becoming a better person, leaving sin behind and becoming those people we are destined to be under his grand plan. He is the light and our guide, and he gives us life through spiritual and characteristic growth.
"without light things cannot grow, and without Christ we cannot grow."
