Day 161
Cold takes: S27E2 Got A Nut
Maybe for the first time ever since season 1, South Park does direct narrative contrast between Jesus and Satan. Jesus is active and hopeful while Satan is passive and done. They each had a larger presence in the premiere and only one scene in this one. I don't expect it, but I wouldn't be surprised if in the end this builds up to a confrontation of sorts.
I do care for Stan, one of the most privileged and aloof kids being stuck in the middle of the most important people in his life, the more marginalized and fiery Kyle and Wendy.
It's not exceptional by any means, but I found it neat to have the counseling scenes set up as clear parallels. It's a clever and satisfying device for the story and I'm glad both of them realized they weren't enjoying what they are doing.
I like South Park using their already established characters whenever possible. Like Benny, the bank teller, the teen from Go Fund Yourself or Jenkins, everyone's favorite troll.
And as I previously predicted, Betsy is here to stay and voice her opinions. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, it’s a silly passion project that can be seen here. Although I would have liked if Dougie got to speak too, it was also nice to see Bebe being featured.
During this whole scene I was vibing with the variety of characters, but especially with the girly pop twirling her hair and making faces, she's a mood.
It's so rare to see college aged characters on South Park. The show made it a point to only showcase small children and parent-aged adults that it's refreshing that ever since the teen episode in S25, they are less shy with featuring teens/young adults.
I liked that Liane actually had some authority over her son, even if he broke the rules, he was at least intimidated by her to a degree. I also prefer Clyde getting the win over him even if neither of them deserved acknowledgment.
I still want to know who won the prizeo contest. Turns out two of my last week's guesses aren't candidates as they already existed in previous group shots so I have no idea at all.
No PSA this weak. In S22 with the #cancelsouthpark thing they did at least two episodes plus a subversion. I wasn't expecting it to be 50, but I did expect it to be 2 or 3 before the joke runs its course. Oh well, it seems like Trump is here to stay anyway.
The creators of “South Park” are savaging Donald Trump, his corrupt Cabinet officials, and right-wing media figures, using their newest seas
Emily Singer at Daily Kos:
The creators of “South Park” are savaging Donald Trump, his corrupt Cabinet officials, and right-wing media figures, using their newest season to take them to task for their moral degeneracy, spineless ass-kissing, and even their physical appearance. The second episode of the long-running show's 27th season aired Wednesday night, and creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker took no prisoners as they lambasted the Trump administration's evil immigration enforcement policies. The episode centered on a school guidance counselor who was fired due to budget cutbacks and enticed to join Immigration and Customs Enforcement as an agent, only to use racial profiling to round up Latino immigrants in order to meet Trump's deportation goals. In a sign the show is being produced in real time, the episode mocked the administration for lowering its standards to hire more ICE agents—news that broke earlier on Wednesday, when Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that her department was getting rid of age limits and education standards for ICE applicants.
[...] Vice President JD Vance also got dragged, with the creators depicting him as a subservient overweight baby who debases himself to appease Trump. "Well, I’ve finally made it," Vance wrote in a post on X, ignoring the fact that the show was mocking his Trump bootlicking. Trump, too, is pilloried for his deep ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the financier accused of child sex trafficking who died by suicide in a federal prison.
The show featured scenes at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in which young girls are sexually massaging old men, seemingly against the girls' will—a reference to the massage rooms at Epstein's private island where underage girls were abused. [...] Meanwhile, in a totally separate storyline, right-wing influencer and Trump bootlicker Charlie Kirk is brutally savaged for his straw man debates on college campuses. Kirk used a cringeworthy podcast to react to his depiction, appearing to be unaware that he was being made fun of.
South Park doing a better job than most mainstream entertainment in calling out the evildoers in the Trump Regime and their propagandists, and it shows once again in the “Got A Nut” episode.
Butters in the new episode!
i had no idea my nut was that big…
I really thought that when ICE got to heaven they were just gonna find all those Mormons. But I guess God and St. Peter chilled out or whatever.
Also this episode is gonna piss that awful lady off SO MUCH.
Is this the most horrifying triangle smile in the show's history?
