Ignore if you don't want to see me rant about people portraying goths ignorantly in fics
Listen. If you're writing some sort of goth!lock fic or something, please research the gothic subculture (the Wikipedia page is surprisingly good). As a goth, I am finding it terribly difficult to not stab my eyes when you portray goths ignorantly. Just a few things if you don't plan on using Google. 1. Metal isn't a goth genre. Yes, some goths listen to metal, but the genre itself isn't goth. 2. Emo and goth aren't interchangeable omfg 3. Punk and goth are not interchangeable however, if it wasn't for the punks, we'd never have goth (or at least goth as we know it). 4. Hipster and goth are not interchangeable. I don't even understand how this is a thing. 5. MARILYN MANSON ISN'T GOTH OMFG (yes, some goths do enjoy his music, but it's not goth) 6. Not all goths are depressed. 7. Some may disagree, but goth is more about the music than the fashion. 8. Some good goth bands to know that are popular in the gothic subculture are Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Christian Death (with Rozz Williams, the rest of it is shit imo), Alien Sex Fiend, and Specimen. Of course there are very many more. 9. Goths aren't violent drug addicts or satanists. I mean, there are probably some goth drug addicts and some violent goths but they aren't like that because they're goth. Also, there are goth satanists (not that that's a bad thing) but they aren't satanists because they're goth. 10. Goths are literally just like everyone else except we (usually) dress different, listen to different music, watch different movies, and read different books. Also, some goths like "normal people" things. For example, this is my Sherlock blog. I'm a huge fan of BBC Sherlock. Sherlock isn't a goth thing. I'm sorry if you aren't interested in seeing this, I'm just angry. I promise I won't post anymore ranty shit on here, I've just had enough.
