The art museum has reopened (with restrictions) so I decided to spend my day studying there. It's nice to have a change of scenery once in a while.
I never took an elective on philosophy in my undergrad but I've always been interested in it so here we are, starting a copy of Plato's Symposium and Phaedrus that I picked up at a used bookshop last year. There's absolutely no structure to my self-study(?) at the moment; seeing as I have no idea how much time I'll be able to spend on it, I figured I'd be better off just starting and following my curiosity. I'm working to compile a reading list (ignoring my terrible track record with reading lists) to make my way through - if you have any suggestions please let me know!

((Hey look I’m back! Sorry for the v long and completely hiatus, I’ve been *so* stressed))

Sitting by the sea seeking solace in The Silmarillion when I should be studying statistics.
By all accounts I have this weekend off, having nothing due for several days, except that I have an exam coming up frightfully quickly and an unfortunately busy schedule lined up for the week ahead. Will likely start on my work soon, given that I brought my laptop, but really who wants to learn about factorial statistics when you can read about the Feänorians instead.

It feels as if I'm finally working on my thesis in earnest now. Spent about an hour yesterday moving my draft from a Word doc to a Google doc and properly arranging headers to make it faster to edit whenever I reach those later stages. Thankfully I had the foresight to write technical memos for each week of my research last term and my literature review immediately jumped from 5 to 15 pages long. Still have a long way to go but I think I'll keep up the habit of writing memos each week even though my professor doesn't require it; it's a good way to practice my technical writing skills and can easily be transitioned into my actual thesis paper.
Updated my Notion page as well - created a specialised page to organise my resources by subject created a new page to keep track of all relevant contacts. It's Tenet themed due to the fact that Göransson's soundtrack singlehandedly fuels my writing most days and also because that film was so much fun.
🎶 Windmills - Ludwig Göransson

The coffee shop I visited a few days ago hung a bike up on the wall as decor. Which, ok. A choice.
Haven't been very active here lately, mostly because I've not had much in the "study" realm to share. My classes this term don't lend themselves well to physical notes, and what notes I do have are so specific in content that you could probably track me down with minimal effort. Curse of graduate school; everything gets so niche. So my camera roll is filled with images from my non-academic life instead, like this bike on the wall, which I tend to prefer sharing more on my instagram. This blog feels like a visual diary of my academic life rather than my personal one, and I think I'll keep it that way. Something nice about being able to put bits of myself into different boxes so that when I step back and view it I get to see the whole picture. Bit like pointillism; looks very different in detail but no less beautiful, just different.
