So, for a while now, the Necken project has been on hold. Mostly because I grew tired of the project, but also because I’ve been wanting to do a specific project for a couple of years. Introducing, End of Rope!
End of Rope is getting closer and closer to being a
local multiplayer grapple hook battle game,
where players win points by knocking the others out of the level, using their powers (and grapple hooks of cource!).
Imagine that the ninja rope from Worms had a child with the knockout mechanic from Micro Machines, or Smash if you will. Add a few powerups in there and you will have a great game to play with your friends while drinking beer.
The game is very inspired from a game me and a couple of friends made a couple of years ago, Twang!, that even won a BAFTA. I wanted to reawaken the fun our players had with that game.
So far the game is playable and stable enough to be released as a first alpha version. However, there are a few minor things I want to address before letting you guys play it with your friends.
The two things to address right now:
- Not crashing on Windows. Typically bad thing.
- Controllers get reassigned between rounds.
Currently you can choose between 4 characters, up to 4 players, and first to 5 points win. You can only score by being the last survivor. The players kill each other by making sure they disappear in the dark void along the edges.
