Just watched ami nakai’s short program and it was genuinely so beautiful I audibly wowed with the commentator. Genuinely one of my favourite programs ever now, the fluidity and charm in her movements and the power and skill in her spins was so insane I haven’t been this moved by a program, no a skater is such a long time. She reminded me of a Disney character, especially with the music, I’ve never seen a skater with such a beautiful affinity with both artistry and jumps (cuz I’m still new to figure skating).

Like I was so impressed with that first jump and every single one after that, because from how fluid her movements were, I thought her artistry would be her main thing since it’s kinda rare to see skaters nowadays be so balanced with both. In recent years I’ve noticed they always tip towards one side of the scale where a skater might have greater artistry than jumping skills or vice versa. It’s also sad to see jumping being prioritised over artistry sometimes but ami nakai rebalanced the scales and reminded everyone that hey both are equally important.

The way she was moving along the ice was so insane and it felt so fresh to me for some reason, it was one of the smoothest performances I’ve seen and her use of space also is extremely commendable, not once did I feel bored of watching her and it felt like she was giving us something different with each move. Also the outfit matched so well with the program in my opinion, it really gave me a feeling of slight whimsy and youth watching her move about.

Then halfway though she switches it up to a more fun and playful vibe while also still being so graceful and the whole program I feel she matched the music soo so fucking well, even whilst jumping or just moving about, her body was so in sync with the music it was like being told a story.

Truly a magnificent performance.
