Have you ever done any world building or storywriting, accompanied by drawing? If not, is there anything similar you have conceptualized mentally but haven’t yet put a pen to?
I have!! One of my better fleshed-out worlds is an Urban Fantasy story called Greenport, the name of the fictional american city in which most of the events take place.
It's not all that groundbreaking a concept - it holds the classic trope of supernatural beings and elements existing in secret alongside the mundane - but I think I managed to think up a coherency in the way the universe functions that makes it grounded in a pretty realistic way.
I have a whole (but simplistic) 'encyclopedia' I started writing on my discord server to explain exactly how it works, of which you may have a sneak peek until I finish it properly:
This is the very basic rundown of the universe, and I go more in-depth in those links about each of the realities, which themselves usually have more links wherein I give details about the species from those worlds, so on and so forth. I love overexplaining details sometimes.
My main characters for this story are Marc and Pernelle, a demon and its summoner to whom he taught the secrets of alchemy. I love them to bits. Marc has a True Form that I had shown you a while back!
My issue with storytelling is that I feel pretty good at imagining universes and characters, the way they work and evolve within their environment... But I feel very lacking when it comes to crafting solid and specific scenarios.
I'll tend to have overarching themes and directions, some specific scenes in mind (often 'the cool factor' or 'big character evolution moments'), but building off that into something that would actually function as a Proper Story to share is much more difficult. No matter the format!
But until, if ever, I manage to build this story in a solid enough way to become the novel I imagine it being, I've made it into a universe for my friends and I to play with, in a roleplaying server. It's been dormant a while due to me getting busy with life and all, but... I do have plans. I just have to tackle them and bring it back to life eventually ♥
