I got an advanced copy to review and I wanted to share it with you all.

Wild witchcraft by Rebecca Beyer is a wonderfully written book on herbal magic. This book goes over how to grow your magical garden and how to use it. I loved how each plant had lore written about them and had both medicinal and magical information as well as how to use it. The sections on spells and rituals was well written with classic spells and rituals that any practitioner should know.

I recommend this book for both beginners and advanced witches because it has some herbs that are not always included in these kinds of guides.

Duolingual Witches:

ALWAYS write down the names of your herbs, waters etc in both languages.

1) if you forget the name / correspondence  it’s way easier to look it up that way (also counts for the botanical name)

2) if you live with someone else, they absolutly need to know which herbs are dangerous and which are safe.  I learned this from my traineeship to become a compound pharmacist; ALWAYS label dangerous ingredients as such. Put up extra warnings on the packaging if they are toxic, harmful to your animals etc. 

3) if shit happens, they can tell your doctor. this is vital for your own sake, theirs and potentially the doctor (depending on your craft/materia used)

4) as paracelsus stated: every toxin is just medicine if you find the right dosage, but the inverted is also true, meaning even seemingly innocent herbs like mint, lavender, roses can be harmful if you’re allergic to it.

I don’t just say this as a witch, but also as someone who has received training in a professional compounding pharmacy enviorment. 

Always label your jars, include batch numbers, potential dangers, when you collected the herbs or a best-by date if provided. Don’t ingest herbs you don’t 100% know are safe, do a spot test to get sure you’re not allergic.

Magical pinecone ink The recipe is simple: 1 cup (45 g) pine "scales" 2 cups (475 ml) distilled water 2 teaspoons (8 g) soda ash (or washing soda store-bought) bring the content to a boil then very slow simmer for 2 hours. I ended up with 1/4 cup of dark liquid. The content was strained and voila! In the bottle I added 6 drops of cloves essential oil which helps for storage and potential mold. You could also use wintergreen essential oil. If you don't need to store the ink for a long time, you could skip that step. The ink is placed in the fridge. Magically pinecones are associated with the planets Saturn and Mars Pine is a funerary tree that represents everlasting life and immediately as an evergreen tree. Pine trees were often planted over graves to strengthen the souls of the deceased and help preservation. I found the pine cone I used to make my ink at the oldest cemetery in my area. Pines magical aspects are: necromancy, healing, protection, fertility, prosperity, cleansing, immortality. Spiritual protection from negative energies.
