Ozzy Osbourne died and I honestly didn’t expect it to hit me like this. Yeah, he was the Prince of Darkness, the Black Sabbath frontman, the rock icon. But to me, he was also the soft-spoken, stumbling dad from The Osbournes… the reality show I watched religiously in my early twenties. I never missed an episode.
That show was everything to me back then. It was chaotic, loud, weirdly comforting, and so different from the perfectly curated family shows that were everywhere else. Watching their wild dynamic made me feel… understood. I didn’t grow up with a peaceful home, and something about the way they functioned through all the noise and dysfunction felt familiar. Real. Relatable. There was love underneath all the madness… and it showed.
I still remember Ozzy wandering around the house in slippers, mumbling and yelling “Sharon!” with little dogs barking at his heels. He was a rock legend, but at home he was just this sweet, soft-spoken guy who always looked a little dazed and totally loveable. That contrast always stuck with me.
It’s strange how someone you’ve never met can become such a fixture in your life. Ozzy was part of my world through a screen, but he still felt real to me. Like a familiar presence. A pop culture dad who helped me laugh through my own messy life.
Losing him feels like losing a weird little part of my youth. A reminder of how much time has passed and how deeply certain people and shows can leave a mark on us.
Rest easy, Ozzy. Thank you for the music, the mayhem, and the memories. 🖤
