So.... wanted to do a Bone Cloak version of Hector from Coco.
Of Course his skull is the infamous Coyote. Maybe cliche if you don’t know Coyote stories, but there’s a lot of attributes to the mighty coyote lore that play into Hector’s character, aside from the notorious trickster. Coyote was an avid creator and a survivor, from the stories I recall, and would disguise himself in elaborate ways.
I wanted to add the skull markings, I really did. Went through my color swatch trying to find the right colors but I’m pressed for time.
More stuff and I suppose spoilies below the cut.
There’s a lot of speculation on what became of Hector’s body after he was murdered, because this was a child’s cartoon. Yus. Of course.
Bone Cloak spirits rise from the undiscovered or long forgotten remains of an individual who feels strongly wronged in life, usually a violent or utterly tragic fate, which is a part of the ‘forgotten’ body lore. I don’t think there’s a real reason Hector could’ve become a Bone Cloak, as long as he was given some form of burial - I believe a Priest will give last rights to pauper graves, especially recalling the time period Hector passed in. Dang, this is utterly sad and tragic.
Some Bone Cloaks. No lie, Antique is my fav right now. Grafeio is a close second, only because he dresses fancy. The name Grafeio is an English spelling for γραφείο, which is meant to translate to ‘Office’. It’s actually supposed to be a translation for ‘A Writing Desk’, but I couldn’t work out the kink. I use google translate, and put names or phrases through several translations in hopes to increase accuracy.
Ironically, Grafeio does not have the skull of a raven, his skull is a species of hawk.
Bone Cloak’s hold an animal skull lofty above their precious Cloak, the significance is not well understood but is suspected to have to do with the tragedy which resulted in the living person’s demise. The skulls come in variations of wear or staining, usually a result of where the original bones of the deceased have been neglected and left forgotten.
The tanned fellow to the furthest corner is an example that Bone Cloak’s don’t all wear uniform long flowy, heavy capes or cowls. They adorn a coat to add weight on their carcass and aid them in slipping through the unawareness of mortal pedestrians. They are sometimes spied while wandering highways or long unused roads, but a second glance proves there is nothing there but a wandering traveler in a coat. Despite how unusually warm the weather is.
This is a gift Bone Cloak for @avian-foot-traffic. Gave me the idea of a few Cloaks patiently watching a dude eat his food, and one of them was the fancy horse gentleman. Because why not.
