i always forget grimmauld place is like
grim-old-place
yknow?
the noble and most ancient house of black
grimmauld place, slowly rotting from the inside. never quite clean, no matter what the elves do, there's grime on the windows and dust on the drapes and all the fruit has already gone bad.
@drarrymicrofic
Prompt: raven
Harry opened a book at random. "Why is a raven like a writing-desk?" he read aloud.
"It was a transfiguration error," Draco replied absently.
"What?" Harry looked up from the book in his hands to scowl at the useless posh git.
Draco did not look up from the book resting on his legs, which in turn were propped up on the desk in front of him -- Harry's desk, by all rights, given that Grimmauld was Harry's house, regardless of what the House itself seemed to think.
Draco turned a page and generally continued to look elegant and aristocratic and born to lounge carelessly on Grimmauld's clunky, expensive furniture while Harry sprawled on the dusty rug.
"It wasn't a riddle," Draco said explaining nothing. "It was a sincere question about an item belonging to a local wizard -- some ancestor of the Ferwitzes', I believe."
Transfer of House allegiance was projected to take a year total, beginning with a month of sharing the space.
Harry closed the book with a thunk and tossed it aside, then sneezed thrice at the cloud of dust that caused.
It was going to be a long fucking month.
I can see if Sirius is left with no choice but to raise his kids in grimmauld, his spouse just decides to take advantage and remodel the whole place from the ground up. Calm lighter colored walls, architecture that gives a feeling of a wider more open space, not a snake decoration in sight. The place becomes unrecognizable to anyone that knew what it once looked like.
Oh b-but. No. No, please. Um. Some people treasure Grimmauld? The history? The *whimpers* snake decorations. You're--you're leaving Regulus' bedroom as a shrine, right, Sirius? RIGHT?!
I can absolutely see this, yes. And from SIRIUS' perspective, that's very lovely of them and everything, but from the perspective of KREACHER you are describing a WAKING NIGHTMARE.
i recently read Toys in the Attic & loved it! can you give a director's commentary for the dynamic between Sirius and Remus? looking forward to reading your other fics!
I had to first confer with my writing partner before replying because I am honoured to be asked such a question about our fic - so firstly, thank you! @ashesandhackles and I were inspired by the dark humour that Guy Ritchie plays with in his movies, mixed in with paranormal/comedy themes of Ghostbusters. (Note: there is dark humour involved) Right so, first things first, the idea came from ramblings that had me cry-laughing. We began thinking of what it would be like for a retired Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher to walk into Grimmauld Place - a house riddled in dark artefacts and things that want to kill maim you. A home that was built to threaten anyone who wasn't pureblood or anyone who tried to question the Black family. Well, for Sirius, it must have been a minefield - a home that threatened him to the point where he had to runaway. For Sirius, he is forced to return to some incredibly dark memories. For Remus? Well, shelter is shelter and beggars can't be choosers, right? Here are some of the rambles: Remus: You have a Boggart in your house? Sirius: please don't die of excitement.
and... Lupin: Did you know you have a stranglatous curtainous in the drawing room? Amazing energy force- Sirius: Actually having a panic attack, mate @thedreamermusing came in with... Lupin: I found the most amazing cupboard. It sucks in light and magic. Not even a lumos works inside it. Extraordinary work of magic really-- Sirius: I've spent hours locked in that cupboard screaming my lungs out as a child, Remus. From there, the story just snowballed, we started thinking of Lupin as someone who would hoard dark magical artefacts in his room like Kreacher hoards Black family heirloom (might even creep Kreacher out by the end). Kreacher: the half breed is willing to save my mistresses treasures? Oh my poor Mistress, what will she say-
Remus: Yeah, yeah, can you hand over the doxy poison before Sirius finds us we kept going... Sirius walks into Lupin's room, there's Lupin holding a dark artefact like Gollum holding the ring.
Sirius: What the fuck is that?
Lupin: I found it -
Sirius: No - you stole it @thedreamermusing had another great one... Remus once he sees the half naked women on Sirius's wall: Really Sirius? How uncouth. Those posters are really a bad influence on the children. You should take them down. Sirius: ... seriously? THAT'S the part of this house you have a problem with?
What started off as a joke, inspired Ashes and I to collaborate on a fic that not only would be written with this style of humour but also show the dark inner holds these two men have. The themes are around Remus' lack of having a home and Sirius' trauma that hides in every nook and cranny of Grimmauld Place. We wanted to see how these two very dark experiences worked together when you placed these two very sad men together. What's a blessing for one, is a nightmare for the other. When the ghosts of your past start haunting you, who you gonna call?
❤
The house I would kill to live in -with Sirius obviously-
