A Roman "hologram" effect ring found in the grave of 1st century AD noblewoman, Aebutia Quarta.
The ring is thought to depict her son, Titus Carvilius Gemello, who passed away at age of 18. Found at the Grottaferrata necropolis close to Rome.

June 19th, 2021 :: We departed Ostia Antica and drove to Grottaferrata to our fabulous hotel, Locanda dello Spuntino where we passed out from exhaustion. We woke up at around 7:30 and had dinner al fresco at around 8pm. The food never gets old in Italy–it’s truly tasty. A foodie’s dream. My husband had freshly made pasta with shaved truffles and I went for the meat sweats. I typically stick to pescatarian, but that pork dish was just too tasty to pass up. Besides, we were in a full blown Medieval Taverna! I had to go for the meat shank. So...beneath the restaurant...we discover caves and tunnels and an endless series of passages. It was like a D&D nerd’s dream. I felt like I was dungeon crawling with heels on. The cool factor of this hotel shot through the roof once we discovered the cellars and began exploring. How awesome is this place!??? I highly recommend this hotel. They have beautiful rooms, great food, and at $120 a night, it’s a bargain. Grottaferrata is a great little town with a happening night life, an excellent place to explore Frascati, Villa d’Este, Hadrian’s Villa and more.
Brother Claudio, 27, picks an olive branch at Greek Abbey of Saint Nilus, which hosts Italy’s last 10 Basilian monks of the Greek Orthodox rite, in Grottaferrata, Italy, south of Rome. The Basilian monks built the monastery in 1004, 50 years before the Great Schism of 1054 which led to the separation of Eastern and Western Christianity. At that time, the monks chose to remain faithful to the pope of Rome instead of following the Orthodox patriarch of Constantinople. To this day, however, the Basilians follow the Greek Orthodox liturgy. The monks adhere to the acetic regimen of prayer and work of the order founded by St Basil in 356 in present-day Turkey.
