GROW GAMES. The Service Build Kit
In order to negotiate the concepts depicted in the Design Fiction workshop we came up with a Design Game: The Service Build Kit (SBK). Potential stakeholders, service roles, products and locations met during our research are represented by cards with specific properties.
The Grow Games S.B.K is used to produce holistic service concepts. Each service concept is represented by one board and in order to be complete it must have all three kinds of Service Roles on it. The board has the format of a timeline. In order a card to enter the board, it must have at least one connection to another card and that connection must be defined. Shareholders cards need to be customised first. A designer customises a shareholder card by filling his motive (for obtaining a service role). All actor cards have input and output connectors. Product & Location cards have ownership and usage connectors and purpose customisation.
FIRST ROUND (GROUP ACTIVITY)
The group creates its first boards based on the animatics created in the Design Fiction workshop.
SECOND ROUND (INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY)
The designers use the cards to build scenarios in order to complete the boards created in the first round, or create new boards. A scenario contains connected cards and a narration featuring the included cards.
THIRD ROUND (GROUP ACTIVITY)
The designer present their scenarios to the group. Similar scenarios are merged and moved to create the board.
FOURTH ROUND (GROUP ACTIVITY)
The group evaluated the boards and discusses the process of verification and testing for each complete board.
