On This Day In Royal History . 24 May 1892 . . Prince George (later king George V) was created Duke of York, Earl of Inverness & Baron Killarney by Queen Victoria on 24 May 1892. . ◼ Prince George succeeded as George V in 1910 upon his father’s death, & his titles merged with the crown. . ◼ The Duke of York is a title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. . ◼ Since the 15th century, it has, when granted, usually been given to the second son of English (later British) monarchs. . ◼ The equivalent title in the Scottish peerage was Duke of Albany. However, King George I & Queen Victoria granted the second sons of their eldest sons the titles Duke of York and Albany & Duke of York respectively. . ◼ Initially granted in the 14th century in the Peerage of England, the title Duke of York has been created eight times. The title Duke of York and Albany has been created three times. These occurred during the 18th century, following the 1707 unification of the Kingdom of England & Kingdom of Scotland into a single, united realm. The double naming was done so that a territorial designation from each of the previously separate realms could be included. . ◼ Other notable Duke of York’s include King Edward IV; Henry VIII; Charles I; James II & George VI. . ◼ The title was created for the eighth time for Prince Andrew, second son of Queen Elizabeth II. At present (2018), he only has two daughters. Thus, if he has no future (legitimate) sons, the title will again become extinct at his death. . Did you know? . Aside from the first creation, every time the Dukedom of York has been created it has had only one occupant, that person either inheriting the throne or dying without male heirs. . . . #Onthisdayinhistory #Thisdayinhistory #theyear1892 #d24may #HisMajesty #GeorgeV #KingGeorgeV #HouseofWindsor #RoyalFamily #BritishMonarchy #TheKing #GSTK #Vintagephoto #vintagephotography #Royals #Majesty #HistoryFacts #Monarch #monarchy #britishroyalty #OnThisDay #RoyalHistory #King #windsor #buckinghampalace #kensingtonpalace #TheBritishMonarchy #GodSaveTheKing #History #otd (at Buckingham Palace, London) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAlE6MUDBpx/?igshid=1fg48h27bq3aj
The world witnessed a major historical event with the Queen's passing. So many people from all walks of life and all over came out to honor her and pay their respects. Massive media coverage just of her passing and funeral. Important royal families and government leaders worldwide praising her memory and traveling to London to honor her. 2 million people lined up for hours to pay their respects while her body lay in state. Over half the world's population watched the televised coverage of her funeral. People will always remember where they were when they heard the news of the Queen's death. I know I will. This is what RMM wants--this kind of love, respect and adulation. However after her hopefully long and karma-filled life, few people will remember her let alone fondly...
How lovely! Her Majesty is cheering in Heaven!
West Newton, a 6-year-old gelding, rallied from sixth place to win by a half-length at the Pimlico Race Course.
Excellent read even if you don't normally like him or his wife! Meghan McCain's husband Ben Domenech has written a scathing piece in The Spectator World explaining to the pea brains why Her Majesty was not responsible for colonizing! Yeah logic! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What is tragic is the degree to which the Queen’s passing has been met by so much historical ignorance from the anti-Western left
Everyone turning out to pay their respects to her Majesty...even Becks still hoping for a knighthood!
