Quick Ophelia Experiment. When asked to choose three images from our research and create mind maps around them, I chose a painting from Gucci’s recent SS18 campaign #GucciHallucination, this came up while I was scrolling through Facebook and reassured me of the relevance of my project and subject matter (the appropriation of classic art in a fashion promotion context). words that came to mind were “drama” “fantasy” “stylised”. our task was to create visual experiments to progress our ideas in an endeavour to convey these words and feelings. Continuing from my experiments in blurring the lines between paintings and photographs, in post production, I tried to apply an aspect of contrast, mimicking a Chiaroscuro painting effect and an ethereal glow portrayed in Millais original painting of Ophelia, which inspired both my work and the Gucci reference. I applied a subtle “oil painting” filter in photoshop to emphasise the painted aspect. I feel this was a successful experiment considering the crude set up in my bathroom, applied to a studio setting with more sophisticated set design I think the same techniques will be even more efficacious. My next experiment will be to paint onto these images with my iPad and Apple Pencil on procreate. For semi regular updates on my experiments and my final major project follow my blog verismoblog on tumblr #wecreate
