This charge was found in this state in a cannon tube during an investigation of a shipwreck in 1996 by Louis Frédéric Yves Monguilan. From right to left, the cannon was first filled with black powder, in front of it some parchment (possibly from a parchment cartridge). Then followed cloth wad, in this case old rope in which even a coin of Loui XIV was found. Then came the cannonball, in that case made of iron, followed by another layer of cloth wad, to prevent the cannonball from rolling out of the barrel and the whole thing was closed with a cork
