Y'all mind if I gush about the scene between Caine and the Moon from episode 9 for a moment? 'Cause I need to gush about the scene between Caine and the Moon for a moment.
Because, that scene? It's just too damn beautiful not to gush about.
Caine, who at this point, is no longer blinded by his ego, and preparing to face the consequences of his own actions, no matter what that may be, and just wants to be loved, gets told the words he desperately wanted to here, from something he created, that wasn't created to do that.
"I never programmed you to say that you loved me" is him still thinking in terms of programs. Limited in function. Held in bounds.
"I know" is the Moon revealing that she's not bound by function. That she has evolved.
Caine realised that he had created something more than a program. He'd always seen (imo) that as something only humans could do.
Caine created something on par with a human. Thus, he would have to be no better than a human himself.
And that? That gave him the courage to go in there, face the others, and consequences be damned, do the only right thing he could; apologise.
And they say the power of love is bullshit.
