The Adriatic Guslar. The Guslar is a poet and a bard who sings epic poetry of war, heroes, ancestors and difficult times. He sings in accompaniment of his instrument known as the "Gusle". Illyria got its name from the Greeks and it literally translates to the Land of the Lyres; in this case the lyre is the Gusle. The use of this instrument and the vocal style associated with it can be heard and observed in Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania and Croatia. The tone and music of the Adriatic Guslar is very reminiscent of antiquity and Old Europe; it is tribal sounding and eerie to those listening to it for the first time because of its lack of a comprehensive melody. Yet; because of the Homeric qualities of the Guslar's poetry, his music has thus provided an influence towards Western Music.

ZLATIBORSKE GUSLE I GUSLARI

Skoro do polovine XX veka na saborima, vašarima i drugim svečanostima po selima Zlatibora, kola i pesme izvođene su uz svirale, dvojnice, gajde i gusle.

Okupljanja oko guslara bila su najčešća za Božić i na slavama.

Gusle su nasleđivane od očeva ili dedova, a na početku XX veka još su se na Zlatiboru mogli pronaći majstori koji su izrađivali gusle.
