GALAXY QUEST (1999) dir: Dean Parisot
Rewatched Galaxy Quest for like the 8th time last night, and noticed two delightful things about Guy I never noticed before:
At the end when Sarris attacks the command deck, he shoots literally every single person except Guy, the character who has spent the entire film convinced he's the expendable side character who will be killed off. Brilliant.
Also, in the battle against all the bad guys on the ship, the crew is split up and all doing different tasks to help them win the battle, but Guy literally contributes nothing. He runs around with Fred pointing a gun, making it seem like he's helping, but he doesn't actually do anything. He kills no one, stops no one, plans nothing, doesn't operate any part of the ship to help in any way whatsoever. Every other member of the crew helps, but not him. He really is the "plucky comic relief"! I love it.
Possibly my favourite character from pretty much my favourite movie. Every line is gold, his response to the situation is entirely understandable, and Sam Rockwell smashes it as always!
