the family of Gyllenhaal is btw a swedish nobility family
fun fact about THAT family is that their original name of the person who got knighted back in the 17th century just was Gunne Olsson from Härene. and he was called Gunne Hall (hall is like.... hmmm a big room?). i assume it was his name in the military, people often took “soldier names” in the military so it would be possible to tell the difference between all these swedes in their militarty
(swedish, as the ethnicity swedish, did not historically have last names, in the way that last names works today in sweden. whereas they could be problem in adminstartion to tell the difference between all these dudes named gunne. therefore took soldier names to be able to tell the difference between the soldiers).
anyway, when this gunne dude got knighted he produced one of those odd bullshit swedish nobility names, which are just normal swedish words, but with odd as fuck spelling (but often STILL normal swedish prounancation).
Gyllenhall= golden hall. is what it sounds like. but tbh i do not think this is the names ACTUAL meaning, just how it sounds like to modern swedish speakers ears.
it appears that gunne dude was just bullshitting forward something on the theme of Gunne (his first name) and Hall (his soldiers name). here is what the house of nobles (riddarhuset) says about the name he was knighted with:
“Nils Gunnesson Haal, knighted Gyllenhaal, 'lord of Hahlegården in Västergötland'.
so his original farm appear to be involved in his name too....

perhaps that Jake Gyllenhalls name is very oddly prounaced in usa, but in that families case, it goes with that old tradition of nobility having bullshit names. aka, for them there are often no “real” prounacation actually lol
