As a lifelong dc comics fan I gotta tell you, this sounds dumb. Like casting Ezra Miller as the flash kind of dumb. Without zack Snyder you could really do something iconic. This doesn’t sound like any kind of plan. Just random shit thrown against the wall.
- “Nostalgia is all the rage…Get Keaton on the phone!”
I hope the GA is familiar with Batman beyond.
-“Gender bending is all the rage…. (Rubs temples) (suddenly points up) Superman is a woman now! And so is Batman.”
This feels like a slap in the face to female heroes. Not like they are being called up for a top spot but that they are merely substitutes.
-“Affleck doesn’t want to play Batman anymore and Cavill never made a billion in box office, 86 him.”
If the stories he was involved in as Superman were better then maybe he would have. But Zack Snyder isn’t such a good story teller. He changed the ending of Watchmen and completely destroyed a key element that makes the comic such a profound read.
On one hand I guess it makes sense to try something new with the JL after Snyder’s bombed at the box office and among general audiences and critics. This feels all so random, without much if any resemblance to the source material just feels like they are digging themselves a bigger hole. WB literally has no idea how to handle these characters on screen or even in the comics right now.
Yell at me all you like. Tell me I’m wrong. That’s fine. It’s my educated opinion.
The creator of a Zack Snyder hate page on Facebook just outed themselves as a pathetic racist. These people really just the worst.
I knew this looked familiar.
Except now its less pathetic since Zootopia was almost a whole month older than BvS when it overtook it.
And DC fanboys want to act like it was Joss Whedon that ruined Justice League
Honey that shit was tore up from the floor up from the jump.
“Wow, still making jokes about the Martha Scene? Clearly, you don’t ‘get’ the significance of the Martha Scene and what it represe---”
No dood. We get what it’s meaning and it’s significance within the context of the “story” was. The reason people are still cracking BvS jokes about the Martha Scene, isn’t because Zack Snyder, David Goyer and Chris Terrio somehow created an “avant-garde, uber-intelligent” scene that defies the “meager intelligence” of those who simply don’t or can’t understand the “genius” of Zack Snyder, it’s because said scene was set up so poorly and executed in such a blunt, obtuse manner that any sort of dramatic weight and characterization it could’ve had was immediately lost.
Not to mention the fact that what little character development and meaning it did successfully garner ends up being undercut when it’s proceeded by a scene where Batfleck just kills off a bunch of goons.
Stop pretending that the Internet and comic community’s forced and primarily unfunny jokes about this one badly-executed scene is somehow indicative of people not “getting” BvS and Zack Snyder’s directing as a whole. There’s nothing wrong with liking BvS or liking Snyder as a director, but acting like the numerous critiques and jokes made at the expense of his filmography are somehow either an organized conspiracy against him and the DCEU, or a sign of some sort of intellectual or artistic deficiencies is just embarrassing. It’s okay to admit that shit you like is dumb, everyone likes dumb shit.
Trying to elevate properties that are inherently dumb or poorly made and rejecting any sort of critiques against them doesn’t magically erase all of the problems of said property, it’s just overcompensation. Like what you like, in the end what matters is your happiness and satisfaction, just don’t be a pretentious weenie about it, Christ.
It will never not crack me up how chunky they had Ben Affleck look in bvs, just because Snyder wanted to go hog wild with the DKR stuff. Like almost every live action Batman has looked kinda funny, but Batfleck looks like an SNL sketch character even though he’s supposed to be the most “gritty” and "real" take on the character so far.
I'm going to get some shit for this...
mainly because I've talked so much shit about how awful the Synderverse is/was/i dont know, im pretty sure its over with anyways...
BUT YEAH!
Hack Zack Snyder was so close to making a good Superman movie. i mean so fucking close. i actually really enjoyed the movie up till he got the suit, because after that it just becomes a Michael Bay-esq brawlathon. sure, the weird stuff with Papa Kent dying in a tornado was dumb as hell but all the other stuff was good in that first half.
the stuff on Krypton was actually pretty interesting. seeing Clark growing into his powers and how much of a burden they were on a child and family who doesnt know what to do was a really interesting take. plus some critiques on why he shouldnt be using his powers vs using them was actually a decent element on why he becomes a superhero. then theres the tornado... but anyways.
its just when he gets that fucking suit. all character development is gone. Russell Crowe daddy is like "look boy, youre going to be great. super even. so why dont you go be the man i made you to be. a SUPERMAN" and then it just turns into action porn. and not even good action porn. this is that cheap Cinemax porn that just showed boobs and maybe a butt here and there, but never any male nudity. which was weird. it always just showed things to the side so you saw boobs and hints of groins. i dont miss tv porn at all.
i think im losing my point here.
ugh. it was just so close to a good a Superman movie. it was never going to be the Richard Donner Superman, and it shouldnt have been. like you know the saying "its about the journey, not the destination" and thats what a good origin movie should be about. its why people love Smallville so much. well that and the music, sooooooomeboooooooody saaaaaaaaaaave meeeeeeeeeee🎶
Hack Zack Snyder was just so fucking close... so god damn close. i think that pisses me off more than Clark killing Zod, or the mass destruction, or just how fast everything moves in the second half. and i think this is what really killed the whole Snyderverse before it even began. the movie just dropped the ball so hard that there should have been a sequel to fix or expand on things before any other movie to even start fleshing out the universe.
i could go on and on about this movie, like the crazy weird Jesus allegories Hack Zack Snyder tried to pull off but i wanted to talk more about it as a whole. this movie is rife with bad stuff that smarter people than me have pointed out and talked about. so i wanted to do something different and talk about the actual good potential. because its there. it really is. it just twisted its ankle as soon as it jumped.
I just want November to come and go so the inevitable nightmare of forced, unfunny Joss Whedon quips and shitty mischaracterizations mixed with obvious, pretentiousness of Zack Snyder can be over and done.
