Prompt #12
I got this idea from a story I am currently writing with one of you, it gave me this idea and I want to keep them shorter. It’s not a hero and villain one, but it’s whumpy and one bad person faced with another is just as fun.
Enjoy.
The three screens were the only light in the room, lighten up Alex’s face. The middle one was the most interesting with the fellow hackers reaching out and brag. Not them.
They glanced over to fill in the form to purchase a laptop, for free. That was the left screen, the right one was the form to raise their father’s salary again. A popup got up at the middle screen and disappeared just like that.
‘Hello, ghost’. The very same chat came up two minutes later again, Alex scoffed and nonchalantly click a bottom which automatically gives out a message in mandarin saying something about an error. They couldn’t remember anymore.
‘Nice try, I know you’re there.’ the answer came a minute after they had thought this person had given up. With a deep sight, Alex concentrated on the screen and the chat. ‘I caught you.’
Maybe switch the VPN and some other shit would be good, it had been a week after all. ‘Congrats, you caught me while I hacking two databases at the same time. What do you want?’ Alex wrote back intrigued who this person was, whoever it was they were good at catching Alex hiding in a corner.
‘You’re slipping if anyone can catch your activity.’ Alex looked at the answer like it had been a slap in their face. But laughed turning to write in to finish some of the work they had started. ‘Nothing to say?’
Alex tried to ignore this childish game. ‘I have a lot to say, but not to you.’ Alex typed in before turning to the next screen. This time it was the database to raise their father’s salary. What kind of sum would be invisible?
‘So you’re ignoring me?’
Alex leaned back in the comfortable chair, what they did was risky. But if it worked it was worth it. ‘I couldn’t care less, something wrong with my mandarin?’
‘It doesn’t mean what you think it does. I know my mandarin, what did you use, google translate?’ Alex left the submission unfinished, looking into the account in the hub for this person. ‘Thought so.’
Alex smirked as soon as the very username of the second-best in this entire hub, the VPN suggested this was in Korea. Probably not, ‘Dark phoenix, no one has ever hacked around my protection. Maybe you are second best.’ Alex knew what was gonna happen, ‘next time you see me sitting on the wall like a fly, leave me alone.’
Alex left the chat and the hub, turning in the raise for their father. Before disconnect for a moment of peace, all before their father would get home and the occasional talk would happen.

Prompt #12 (part 3)
#1 & #2
Alex yawned finishing their latest hack, quickly locking at their analog watch. 3 am, night and day had blurred into the same for a long time now. They left a surprise which they would be able to clean out rather quickly, but rattle them up enough for another attack.
Just entering the hub, seeing the chat pop up as fast as they came in, ‘hello again.’
Alex observed the bragging of everything the others had done. Delaying an answer ‘didn’t I tell you to leave me alone?’ They had considered leaving, disconnect and go to sleep. But they didn’t fear Dark Phoenix.
‘I like your background picture.’ The answer was meant to rattle them, but it didn’t. Tap their fingers at the desk enjoying the picture they had picked up, ‘is it personal?’
Alex smirked and knew that their background picture was on Dark Phoenix’s computer, ‘is yours?’ Now they just had to wait for an answer, Dark Phoenix had been busy doing other things while Alex got to know the second-best a little better.
‘What?’
Alex glee was of pure victory, ‘even if your background picture isn’t personal, but…’ They let the threat hang for a moment of peace, observing the picture Dark Phoenix most likely had drawn themselves. ‘I know your folder with your art is.’
‘When?’
Typing with the satisfaction of having surprised them and if they had left it well alone, it would have been a secret until who knows when. ‘30 minutes ago, you were busy.’ Glanced at the picture which was really good, ‘I found something I liked.’
‘You little shit’ Alex raised an eyebrow at the outburst, ‘what did you find?’
Preparing for sleep Alex felt more than ready to go, ‘I suggest you look for something missing.’ Shutting down the two screens on the sides, laughing they couldn’t help themselves. ‘I didn’t choose my nickname, you did.’
They disconnected having the last word, shutting the computer down to get ready to get to bed. They knew their father is gonna wake them up early and they knew how tired they were gonna be.

Prompt #12 part 2
#1
Enjoy.
Leaning back in the chair, watching a desperate soul trying to fix something they had messed up. At the same time, they’d observed the activity of the hub, left only minutes after. Just like they had done the past week, not that they feared Dark Phoenix, but they enjoyed the quiet.
Leaving a company’s main page. Happy about the work done, and it was perfect timing when the front door opened. They didn’t expect their father to do much except for get something to eat and sleep. They stayed in their room, it was the easier way.
Alex surprisingly looked up when their door opened and the light from their celleing lamps light spread in the room. “Welcome home” they greeted covering their eyes from the light.
“Clearly you haven’t been out today,” their father said and Alex huffed rubbing their eyes.
Alex could see a package under their father’s arm. “What’s that?” They went to get a better look.
“I don’t know, but it’s for you.” Their father didn’t let it go and Alex knew how this might go. “Before I let you have this, you have to promise me something.”
Alex looked up at his father, then back at their screens. “What?”
“Go out and answer my questions honestly.” Their father said dead serious, making Alex a little nervous but he nodded. “Good, being inside this much isn’t good for you.” The package was put on the desk, letting them open it up, “aren’t you curious?”
“Yeah, I guess…” Alex took the knife to open it up, picking up a brand new laptop. their father raised an eyebrow, “I expected this to come two days from now.” They honestly answered and put it down on the desk, their father had an unreadable expression. It reminded them of disappointment, which was the look he was gonna get if their father knew the truth.
“Looks like a really good one, how did you pay for it?” Their father asked and took a good look. Alex pointed to one of the screens, bringing up a page with bitcoins. A lot of it.
“Is that yours?”
“Yes, I…” They started and their father gestured them to silence.
Alex dropped everything, sat down to the chair. “You don’t need another reason to sit in front of a screen, you already have three.” Their father grabbed the laptop and the whole package, walking out. Alex followed him out to the kitchen, “what? Is this a violation of your freedom? Because last time I checked you’re still 17.”
Alex sighed and gestured the desperation away. With no answer, they leaving to walk to their room. Switch off the light before closing the door, turning to see their screens which had been covered with a dark background and with text covering all three screens.
‘Remember to disconnect next time.’ Alex went for it and realized it was a background picture on his computer, “son of a bitch.”
