Haku & Naruto (Naruto) x Denji & Reze (Chainsaw Man)

Thoughts below!

I went into this edit thinking that I'd be comparing Haku to Reze because they have very similar storylines. But when you look closer it's actually Naruto and Reze who have the same motivations when it comes to their counterparts. How can I convince this person to leave their abuser or at the very least see how they're being used by them?

Reze does get Denji to attempt to leave Makima only to be thwarted at the last minute. Haku, on the other hand, was so convinced of his own worthlessness outside of Zabuza that nothing Naruto said could get him to leave. Because Haku didn't have a life outside of Zabuza as he was "adopted" as a toddler. Thus he didn't have a dream outside of being useful to Zabuza as a weapon so that he wouldn't be left alone. Meanwhile, Denji's dream was to live a normal life and get a girlfriend. It's a dream that can be accomplished with or without Makima hence his decision to leave.

This difference is why I'm still so disgusted by the Naruto manga and the fandom's response to Haku's character. His relationship with Zabuza is romanticized (and even sexualized) despite Naruto even going so far to call Haku Zabuza's slave. While Zabuza was a victim of his society (much like Makima is a victim of the Japanese government), I don't think he deserves to be buried next to his victim or receive any audience sympathy. That's why Haku's ending still leaves a bad taste in mouth tbh he deserved so much better.

But beyond that, I do love how Haku is the canary in the coal mine when it comes to how fucked up the shinobi world is and has a lasting impact on Naruto's outlook. I'm sure Denji did the same to Reze by exposing her own dissatisfaction with her life. I hope she's happy wherever she is.

Anyway tldr: fuck Makima and Zabuza, Denji/Reze and Haku/Naruto deserved more time with each other outside of the systems that dehumanized them, also Haku and Naruto should have kissed rip.

I was in the mood for it but I completely forgot that most people writing Naruto/Haku fics can’t genuinely write for them for shit.

I say that b/c almost all Naruto/Haku fics gender bend Haku.

Which brings me to my next prized rant.

If you have to sacrifice an aspect of a character to accommodate what you write instead of vice versa then you don’t know how to write and you shouldn’t be writing for that pairing until you learn to.

Personally there isn’t ever a reason to gender bend a character and I know for most cases it’s for fun. But me being the prude that I am, thinks it’s actually a waste of time to sift through the fics of the non-genuine aspect of a pairing that I want to read about.

I guess if female!Haku fics were actually just for fun and not b/c Haku is an androgynous male who can outlook most of the females in the Naruto world then I wouldn’t be as pissed to see those fics outweigh the actual pairing of Naru/Haku.

But it does and it pisses me off b/c the reasons behind it are ignorant, and it’s as ignorant as gender bending Neji b/c he has long hair. So the least those writers can do is warn readers that they’re gender bending Haku, so I and others like me don’t have to waste time clicking on your fic only to discover it’s not a genuine Naruto/Haku fic. Which is what you owe your readers, otherwise your falsely advertising a pairing you aren’t really writing about.

Aren’t you glad that Haku isn’t alive sometimes, I mean I can just imagine all those fake Naru/Haku fics taking over the actual pairing if he was. I’m glad that got nipped in the bud.
