Hi 👋
WMAF Hapa # 14 - Markiplier 🇺🇸🇰🇷🇰🇵
Mark Edward Fischbach, commonly known as "Markiplier" is an American YouTuber, actor, filmmaker and podcaster. Gathering over 38,000,000 subscribers on his channel, he's one of the most famous YouTubers and Korean-Americans. Iron Lung, the self-financed sci-fi film written, directed, and starred by him, became a massive indie box-office hit, grossing $51 million worldwide against a $3 million production budget
His father was Cliffton "Cliff" Morris Fischbach Jr., a White American of German descent, and his mother Sunok Chi (also known by his fanbase as "Momiplier"), is Korean.
Clifford was an U.S. Army officer when he and Sunok met in South Korea. The couple got married and moved to the United States. Mark was born in a military base in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Fischbach family moved to Ohio, where they would reside and settle. Some time after their two sons, Mark and Thomas were born, the couple got divorced. Sunok got remarried to another White American man named Larry Frank (present in slides 6 onwards).
Mark's North, South Korean and American roots were explored in both videos and a documentary
A little peek, just for you, daddy 😊💛
As a fellow Taiwanese person I was also surprised to learn that the painting that Scott and Kip were looking at in episode three was by a Taiwanese artist also! His name is James Lee Chiahan and is a painting of Tainan. Apparently the painting is actually from Jacob Tierney's personal collection. Nice to see some unexpected representation :)
I just love that. Seriously I'm resonating with SO many things in this show, it's stunning. Interracial couple, check. An autistic half asian, check. Connor's natural ear for language and accents, check. Instant text replies to the split second, check. Taiwanese representation, check. Connor mewing/sucking in his cheeks for that buccal fat look just like I do if taking pics, embarrassingly check. The reaction/acceptance of the parents also destroyed me, completely foreign to me as they're the opposite of my own parents, so the entire show was so incredibly fulfilling to experience. Check check check 👏
