This is the first album where Taylor‘s back is to us. If feels like it’s so symbolic, like how she is leading us on this journey through other people’s stories, not bringing us into her own

I do think there’s a pretty solid Scott Borchetta / Calvin Harris morphing-combining on this album. The idea of "I gave you everything and you gave me nothing” shouted in full.

It is nine days until Lent and thirty-three days until the start of Ramadan. I can't help but think about but think about the people of Gaza in these two faith traditions and how they will be experiencing these important times of the year. Whether the rumoured forthcoming ceasefire happens, inshallah, or not the people of Gaza will still have months and years of mourning and trauma to contend with. As with Christmas being cancelled in Bethlehem, it is hard to imagine what Lent or Ramadan will be like in Gaza and the rest of occupied Palestine, as people either continue to flee the genocidal actions of Israel or return to their homes to begin the process of rebuilding.

Both Lent and Ramadan have traditions of almsgiving and zakat respectively so I will be trying to give more to Palestinian charities than I have been. Obviously I'll be continuing to attend protests and participate in the various boycotts as well. I just wish there was more that I could do.

So I live in a red county in a majority-red state. Last night I had a conv with a gentleman approaching 70. He was talking about how Obamacare (derogatory) screwed up his Medicare, but his preacher recently found him a “no cost, low deductible health plan” that provides so much a month for OTCs and such. He said it’s probably a lot better than whatever I’ve got. Since I just started a new job and don’t currently have insurance, I agreed and remarked I oughta turn 65. He said but “oh, this won’t be around when you’re 65.” The money’ll be gone.

And I didn’t realize til this morning: he’s blaming the Democrats for that, when it was probably everyone he voted for making the changes to bankrupt our safety net programs.
