Garu comiendo hallacas

Las hallacas son un platillo venezolano.

Se elabora de masa de harina de maíz sazonada en caldo de gallina o pollo y teñida en onoto (achiote como se le dice en algunos lugares).

Rellena con un guiso de carne, que puede ser de res, cerdo u gallina.

Perdón por no decir más, es que me dio sueño

6th year making them. nothing makes me happier this time of year than a freezer fully stocked with hallacas. cheers to my 2017 self for deciding we needed this part of home. i think the recipe has been perfect the last two years, i'm very proud of myself.

my mother is venezuelan, and growing up a lot of my connection with that culture was through her and her friends, and yearly holiday traditions like this: making hallacas and being a part of the assembly line

so i wanted to make a piece depicting how those traditions and the process of making and learning how to make these cultural foods is part of what connects us as family, cause many of the people in my life i consider family are not related to me by blood, but it’s through these connections and events that make them family

After a long day of hard work in the kitchen, ta-da!! My mom and I finished our hallacas! The Venezuelan typical holidays dish 😊🍽️ 50 of them!

And we already tasted them!! So, soooooo good!!
