For the past few days I've posted terrifying vintage Halloween images portraying the epic battle between anthropomorphic pumpkins and strangely dressed little boys.🎃 Today for a change, I've decided to post a vintage Halloween image about love, since long ago, love was a main theme of Halloween 💞. A hundred or so years ago during Halloween, much more emphasis was placed on courtship, romance and the opportunities for love. ❤ Many games and traditions offered glimpses of the future in regard to love. Apples and chestnuts featured prominently, as did mirrors, which could give a peek at one's future spouse 😮. In today's image, a young lady is gauging her chances of marriage within the year by using a candle .🕯 The words at the bottom say, "If with one puff you blow out the light, 'Tis a sign you'll marry this year. If with two, or three, your chance is slight, And if more give it up for the night." She looks quite optimistic here, so a quick marriage may have been in her future.💍 Personally I find it disturbing that she looks no more than nine or ten years old, but who am I to judge? We cats have kittens as young as 5 or 6 months 🤷🏼♀️. Please click the link in my bio to visit my Etsy store for more vintage images of Halloween and other themes.
