The Stewards (= haltija) are practically immortal little spirits, whose job is to make sure their domain is well taken care of. Like other fey creatures, they can be offended easily (like forgetting the butter from the porridge you offer them) and their absence from a household quickly leads to all kinds of mishaps.

They are similar to tomte (= tonttu), though they are (according to my sources) considered less tolerant of people and more associated with wild places. There is a bit of overlap between the terms, of course, but that’s never stopped me before.

Hi peeeps, a new artblog here! I will try to post as often as I can and I will try to upload almost everything I draw (aghhhh) to get over my fear of showing my stuff to others 😎 I drew a "haltija", a nymph of sorts in finnish mythology, couple days ago without any sketching and suprisingly I think it turned out pretty great!

The haltija is a fey spirit in Finnish mythology. They are generally seen as protective entities, usually guarding a particular place, person or thing.

There are many different kinds of haltija, each with a specific purpose. Veden väki will protect bodies of water, while metsän väki defend forests. Kalman väki, also known as death folk, guard graveyards. Tonttu live in urban settlements, protecting homes and the people within.

#Haltija The Finnish version of the Brownie. It is advised to keep it safe from harm, but they are generally friendly and find themselves an owner. They live in the household of their owner and come out at night to set out on daily tasks. They are 3ft tall, have lots of shaggy hair and wear brown clothes. They hate being talked to directly so you must announce what you would like doing or any worries you have while engaged in mundane activity around the house. One must pay them for their work with a glass of milk, oats, cakes or a bowl of cream. If a Haltija is offended then it turns into a Boggart- a spirit that causes a nuisance for people. Haltijas tend to help by giving advice, attending cattle and other daily chores.

Tonttu or Haltija.

The tonttu are creatures of the Finnish mythology who came to Mexico in the year of 1825.

Fleeding their homeland after centuries of brutal slauthering perpetraed against their kind by the Teutonic Order, they find in México a land to stay and to be protected, under the rule of the Xantilmeh , the Tonttu prospered, and even adopted cultural features of the Xantilmeh.

But after the bloody conquest of Temixtitlan by the vampires, the Tonttu lost prestige and power, but in recent years, helped by the Xantilmeh clan of the Tepacnecatl, they are increasing in numbers.
