June 24th, 2026: Say hello to Kyoto's newest maiko! Tanekiku (たねきく) of Hanafusa (花ふさ) in Miyagawa Cho is celebrating her misedashi! She is the first imōto of geiko Tanefumi (田ね文) of Takayoshi (高よし) and represents a new connection between Hanafusa and Takayoshi. Hanafusa currently does not have any active geiko, so instead of having Tanekiku debut without an onesan, they reached out to Takayoshi and Tanefumi graciously agreed to take on the task! Tanekiku's name also reflects this partnership with Tane- coming from Tanefumi's name and -Kiku from the names that all Hanafusa geimaiko share! Hajime Hanafusa x Gender Neutral! Fem!Reader
You and Hanafusa have been great friends for a few good years now. When you first met him it was right after he graduated university, he was working in a small, family clinic. You have been coming to this clinic since your mid teen years, so you were very familiar with the staff. When you were younger, you came here only for the yearly check up that parents are to ensure their children attended to faithfully, but once you had turned 18 it had changed from yearly to every few months, it was doing one of those appointments is when you met Hanafusa.
From the first meeting alone, you could immediately tell that he was a bit more flamboyant with his practices, he and the head doctor of the clinic didn't see eye to eye, Hanafusa wasn't afraid to experiment, even if the practices weren't viewed as very humane. He wanted humans to excel beyond what scientists says, he could see a path for humanity that none else could see... And for this reason alone, you both became great friends.
He's one of the few people you've met and that you've allowed in your circle who didn't mind any of your preferences. He accepted, understood and respected the fact that you went by they/them pronouns. You wore chest bindings, you dressed however you felt, and that you didn't view yourself as dominantly female but not necessarily male either. In all honesty, what you seen as respect, understanding, and acceptance, it wasn't any of these to him... He just simply didn't give a damn. He didn't see gender regardless, all he seen were bodies that could be improved. In complete vessels that need work, sacks of meats that housed bones and cradled organs. That all he seen.
He told you everything that he wished he could and will do, and you told him the same. Some of the things he wanted to do was very wholesome. He has an incredible soft spot for children, you found that sweet of him. His other plans however, weren't so innocent. His first major plan, was to kill the doctor that owned this clinic, then he was going to become the new head doctor, and have free reign to commit the devilish practices he always wanted to do.
It was morbid, but honestly it was none of your business, but it would also benefit you too. For you wanted to be a fighter, whether it was through professional means or under handed, your dream and ambition was to battle. Though, there was one issue, you're a woman, and men don't fight women, no matter how skilled she is. You've done everything in the book. Cut your hair, worked out, changed your clothes, your stance, your demeaner, Hanafusa even helped you and got a speech therapist to help train your voice to sound more masculine... Nothing seemed to work.
Until one day, Hanafusa told your about a new position he was offered at an underground arena called the Kengan matches. Since he was already considered as a black listed doctor, they decided to hire him, they liked the fact that he wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. It was a great place to continue his research of the human body and to obtain possible fresh cadavers without having to buy them cold off of the dark web. When he told you about this place, you knew this was your chance, so you took it. You found a desperate enough cooperate owner, showed off your skills by whooping some ass, and just like that, your dreams were coming true.
Throughout the years, you made a name for yourself in the kengan world, you weren't the strongest but you weren't the weakest either. Along with your reputation growing, so did your and Hanafusa's friendship. It blossomed from associates, to great friends, to best friends. You knew of all of his evils just like he knew of yours. Having Hanafusa as a friend was a bit of a hack in a way. You got free check ups, you got free appointments, you were given free prescriptions, and you got to fight patients that either came in hostile or people that he wanted to be his patients.
Hanafusa also had a knack for watching out for you. He was always giving you a screening. Checking you over to make sure you were healthy, you were full on your vitamin intake, you had no hidden injuries of any kind, writing you new prescriptions for anything you may need. He's a very attentive friend, and you're forever grateful for him. Though sometimes, it was slightly annoying, especially when he questions you on your chest bindings. He'd inquire if you've loosened it in the past few days. He'd question you if you've changed and washed them, he'd question if they're too tight. These questions, always annoyed you. Simply because whenever they were asked, it came with judgmental eyes. Never from him though... But you couldn't help but to become defensive.
You knew he was asking in good faith, he was just looking out for you, he had a doctor's eye, he could see the decline from the bindings, but it still annoyed you to no end. But sometimes, he'd do things that even you couldn't help but to appreciate it too. One time he bought you a new binding, it was so comfortable and so easy to slide on, it's still your favorite till this day. Sometimes, he'll re-wrap them for you himself, making them tight but somehow comfortable, you still don't know what technique he uses, you've asked him a thousand times, but he'd always tease you instead. gatekeeping bastard.
Your and Hanafusa's friendship was a weird yet beautiful mess. You loved and cherished it very much, and you hope that you both stay friends till death do you part.
