Kalafina 27 Week Challenge - Week 24: Top 5 Favourite Songs?

I’m not sure if the true top 5 for me will ever stabilise but this is what I’m feeling right now.

Sandpiper is at the top. It will probably always be at the top. Ever since seeing the live performance of it from the After Eden live it’s been up there as my favourite Kalafina song and has grown into straight up being one of my favourite songs of all time. I just adore everything about it.

red moon needs to be mentioned here as well, for being the song that made me realise that Kalafina weren’t just really good, but more than that. I remember hearing it for the first time when I put the album on and it just blew me away, and I still find it an amazing piece to this day.

Kimi ga Hikari ni Kaete Iku wasn’t originally one of my favourites but it’s slowly been climbing up the list for the past few years. Between the original and re/oblivious versions, the live version on the 5th Anni CDs and the acoustic version from the Alleluia single, every release just made me realise I love it even more. Just a gorgeous piece.

Hanataba was a song that stood out to me on my initial listen through Consolation due to the lovely vocals and the interesting use of accordion in what is essentially a ballad, and it’s only grown on me since. The live from the recent Arena Live release also reaffirmed how much I adore it as well, since that performance was great.

Utsukushisa was a song that I didn’t listen to until quite a bit later on, due to it’s b-side nature, and what a thing to miss out on for a while. Initially lirica stood out as the best b-side in my opinion, but when the 5th Anni CDs came out I absolutely fell in love with the live performance of Utsukushisa, and it’s been my favourite b-side and one of my favourite Kalafina songs since.

Bonus mentions to Tsuioku, Yasashii Uta, Destination Unknown, Magnolia, serenato, sprinter, Kyrie, Koibito no Mukashigatari no Yuugure no, Hikari no Senritsu and Natsu no Asa for all being goddamn wonderful as well. Plus a ton of others, but those are my top pickings.
