Pietrangelo lives rent-free in Oilers fans’ heads and not in a charming way. That man’s been skating around like he’s exempt from karma since the 2023 playoffs, and every handshake line with him feels like a war crime in slow motion.

Sportsmanship is shaking hands with the guy you want to spear through a billboard.

Pietrangelo might’ve won a Cup, but he’s also earned the rare achievement of being universally resented by an entire province.

Okay yes! I have studied the tape and wow. There's Matthew, going along the line, being really friendly with everyone, clapping them on the shoulder and maybe saying a thing or two -- including to Connor, who he has a nice-seeming moment with -- and then Leon and bam. Quickest possible handshake and then they're both moving past it. Even without my fic goggles on, seems like there's SOMETHING going on, even if just bad blood. With my fic goggles on, I can see many possibilities:

Bad mattdrai breakup, not on speaking terms

Current mattdrai relationship, but whooo boy the playoffs are straining it, unclear if they'll make it through

They've hooked up a couple of times but definitely haven't talked about it yet

Mcmattdrai relationship, and Connor and Matthew are handling the playoffs okay and Leon and Matthew definitely aren't. Connor will get them through it though

No matter how a series ends... one of the best parts is always seeing the handshake line and seeing the players respect one another.

The camera cut away just as Kaner was approaching Jonny in the fist bump line. Did anyone’s station show what happened? Did they do anything special or just a regular fist bump?

it's difficult to know if Tazer does a "special" handshake with other players because the beginning of the line is often cut on television so we don't see it. From memory, Tazer has done a "special" handshake with Andrew Shaw (usually a punch on the shoulder) and with Ben Smith (a chest bump), at least (from what I've seen). And of course with the goalies. I like that it seems that Tazer does a special handshake with other players when they have a standout game, but with Kaner he just does it all the time - possibly because he thinks Kaner is awesome all the time. :P
