Into the Mouth of Hell

A tribute to Ashley Williams, and my version of how I think the final moments of Mass Effect 3 would go. This is inspired by the final conversation with her. The text is adapted from “The Charge of the Light Brigade”, by Alfred Tennyson.

Awesome @enchantment1385 tagged in my favorite kind of post: assign songs to your OCs. So this is something I spend a lot of time, usually: I might have already curated playlists for all of them.

So since they are three OCs, I guess I’ll pick a song for each, and you can click the character’s name to go to their Spotify playlist.

Hank Shepard

Hank is more muscle than spirit. He is in many ways very similar to the way Ashley Williams is: a kind, loving, soft soul, who can choke you to death with a leg lock.

His main theme is Rooster, by Alice in Chains. The overall mood of his soundtrack is old-style, country-ish, blueish, heavy and thrash metal.

John Cousland

On the other hand, John lives in his head. Despite living the violent life of a Warden, and even before that the still-violent-albeit-glamorous life of a noble knight, his biggest conflict is philosophical. Even with all he’s seen and done, he cannot make amends with the fact that there is no higher, absolute morality. Gods seem to be as lost as mortals. And there is no inherent meaning to anything. So one is condemned to freedom, and to make one’s own morals. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.

His main theme is Gateways, by Dimmu Borgir. The overall mood of his soundtrack is philosophical and underlyingly hopeful, with a mix of progressive and black metal.

Junia Cadash

Junia’s is a tale of survival, doing what must be done, yet hoping for some ultimate acceptance that never comes. She struggles with being a second class being, a surface dwarf, raised by the might of the Maker and her own passionate fight to improve her lot in life. From carta member to the Grand Mistress of the Inquisition, she always expects a knife in the back, the Maker’s blessings, and some loving to end the day.

Her main theme is Uninvited, by Alanis Morrissette. The overall mood of her soundtrack is rebellious, slightly psychedelic 70′s rock, with a pinch of foot-to-the-mouth heavy metal.
