Hiiii I’ll just dump whatever I draw in your ask box from now on, so you can just choose which ones you want to color whenever you want!
💖
Aaaa thank you so much! I honestly didn't expect you to be this onboard with my silly idea lmao, I'll def enjoy coloring whoever you decide to doodle, and plop here like this! It's kinda refreshing/relaxing to not have to do the (imo most boring part of the process) sketching for a change. Also Hanzoku looks very majestic in this lmao
(Side note, if you want I could draw a character of yours as a thank you for all these lovely sketches! Maybe by themselves, or interacting with my character of your choice, or I guess a canonical one since I think most of yours are bnha ocs unlike mine? Totally up to you!)
When your (honorary) grandfather is an uber powerful supervillain, but still manages to make time to spend it with you
Anyway, after Macc sketched out that Konjou doodle for me (which I loved, it was SO fun to color, thanks again, @macckenchiz) I really wanted to draw this idea I’ve had for a while, which is kid Konjou with Hanzoku. This also goes to Konjou’s BG story a little bit, namely about the fact his mother is, well.....terrible. Not necessarily out of malice in this case, but stubborn, self-centered arrogance where you think you know best, when you don’t. It’s a long story lol
Update: Decided to put the grayscale comic-panel version of this on the same post. I kinda like that one a bit more? Ah well
Also decided to move the og description blabber below the cut, it just explains a little about Hanzoku’s character, you can read if curious;
Talking about uber powerful supervillains, why is it I’ve never drawn Hanzoku again since I made him?? He’s the main villain for my Telepath characters and pretty fun to draw actually. Those shadow arms are a manifestation of his Reverence power, which can essentially rot/decay/age/generally destroy anything they touch, because Hanzoku is essentially a rogue Soul Reaper.
He doesn’t wield this power often tho, because his vessel (possessed body of another character whose mind is basically trapped deep within/in a comatose state) is often too weak to handle all that power, at least at the moment.
Edit; Decided to change it so Hanzoku’s skin is also fully grey instead of ashy warm tone like Yuushi’s, given he is a rebellious Death vestige, unlike his “little brother.”
Basically, this guy (the possessing entity, not Ryoushi) is the main antagonist/head villain for my Telepaths character set
Bio Below:
Name: Hanzoku (the possessing entity) Ryoushi Hyou (the original owner)
Nicknames: Master Hanzoku (most of his followers), The Lost One (Yuushi), Hanzo/boss (Azure), Tiger (Towards Ryoushi specifically by Kaede & Katana, usually in the context of them jokingly telling him “easy there tiger”)
Age: Ryoushi was around his mid-twenties or so when he was possessed, so his body has roughly stayed that age. He’d now be in his fifties normally. (Post-possession, his body ages past his true age lightly, making him appear to be mid sixties instead of fifties)
Height: 205 cm (possessed) 194 cm (unpossessed, he was always a tall boi)
A former Death’s Vestige, possessing the body of a Demon Hunter
Role: The main antagonist who wants to get all of his power back by collecting the shattered pieces of his host’s soul. (more detail in the BG story section)
He also has four sects under his control, four “families” as he calls it as Hanzoku has a bit of a fixation to the concept of family. Each of the family heads being his closest subordinates for varying reasons.
These sects are known as: The Mind Palace Sect, The Soul Palace sect, The House of Heart, and the Vessel Temple (this one refers to one’s physical body basically)
Mind palace: led by Amalia Marek, she kickstarted the grander plan and begun to gather followers for Hanzoku, hence she’s one of the leaders
Soul palace: led by Azure/Laurent Delune. He’s the only one strong and durable enough to train their recruits and keep them in check, hence he’s the leader of this sect.
Heart House: led by Taiga, she’s in charge of this palace staff/assistant sect because she’s not the strongest fighter, but very good at organizing these things having lived in a big family. Also, because she’s Hanzoku’s favorite and he wants to mostly have her around the place instead of out on a mission.
Vessel Temple: led by Belladonna (and Angus, technically) as they were Hanzoku’s first companions, and both have knowledge in anything medical/poisonous. Belladonna is mostly in charge of taking care of his body while he’s resting.
Family: He’s Yuushi’s “older brother” in a way, and he also has bit of a fatherly nature towards Taiga, their youngest sect leader. Like said, she’s his favorite and honorary daughter, which does sometimes make people jealous, namely those who wonder why someone relatively weaker is a leader.
(Ryoushi is the partner of Katana Kamakiri & Kaede Chiba, and therefore the father of their daughters, Akiko and Toshiko.)
Love interest: Ryoushi was in a polyamorous relationship with Katana & Kaede (which yes, it did also mean that Katana & Kaede were a couple between one another and very affectionate, just making this clear)
Friends: Hanzoku is the closest with his oldest companions, Belladonna, Angus, and Belladonna’s son Konjou, although he seems them all as part of his “family” rather than friends. In turn, only Konjou considers him kind of a grandfather of sorts.
Rival: Yuushi, later Yuushi’s anchor/lover Jurou, and a powerful magic spirit called Shura
Powers:
As Hanzoku is a former Death Vestige, he has the ability to just float through shit like a ghost, and merge into shadows, traversing through them like Yuushi.
Extreme regeneration, however since he is using a “mortal” body, he is not immortal the same way Yuushi is. Still he is extremely hard to kill and can regenerate with even half of the body missing
Like Yuushi, he has the ability to see into anyone’s soul and see their deepest darkest secrets and fears. Unlike Yuushi however, he can go further and summon these fears and manifest them as shadowy entities to terrorize and even kill people. This is thanks to his Demon Hunter vessel.
He can also understand any language, even dead ones, just like his “siblings” can.
Hanzoku’s main power is his Soul-Unmasking power, something he tends to call “Reverence” because in his mind, it is the deepest form of respect to one’s soul, to allow them to be completely unchained by anything, basically becoming one’s true self. This power basically drives people insane by removing any sort of inhibitions they have, be it physical or mental. This can affect anything living, which actually includes even plants. Majority of people/animals who are affected by this can’t handle it and die instantly with their bodies dissolving to dust. Plants also wither from it as a side effect, enabling him to dust large sections of land in an instant and leaving them uninhabitable for years. The range of this ability is potentially dangerously large, able to cover entire countries. (there is a big but, Weakness section will explain)
He can also manifest this power as more focused, physical entity known as Reaching Hands; dozens of hands reaching out fro his back, that can destroy anything they touch.
Possession, he can briefly take control of his subordinates, though only briefly.
Ryoushi was a skilled swordsman and demon exorcist, so naturally Hanzoku has all of his knowledge and skills as well, although he rarely uses them. (More skills specific to Ryoushi will be in fun facts section)
Weaknesses:
Because his vessel’s soul was shattered before he could finish the possession, Hanzoku is extremely weak right now, able to even move around only for a short periods of time. He mainly communicates through possessing his followers and remains in deep sleep majority of the time.
Because of this broken state, he can’t use his powers well, especially his most dangerous ability Reverence; the most he can do with one burst tends to be less than 100 people/a small village, typically less. (which sounds like a lot, but given how bad it can be, its small) and he has to rest for a long time, often weeks after each burst. Using the “reaching hands” version is more suitable as it takes less energy, but also isn’t as efficient.
Since he is possessing a mortal body, it does leave him vulnerable while sleeping, hence where his body is located is a deeply guarded secret.
Personality:
While he is a very dangerous and terrifying entity, Hanzoku, like his siblings, tends to be soft-spoken and polite, never really getting overtly angry over anything. He has curiosity towards living beings just like Yuushi, and enjoys learning about living beings’ traditions and stories. This curiosity does extend to his hosts, and he tends to be friendly/polite towards them (apart from letting them go of course; overtime the host’s mind will be completely dissolved, unless someone manages to exorcise Hanzoku) and will even get quite annoyed if someone shit-talks about his hosts. He can be quite swift to punish anybody doing this.
Admittedly this behavior makes him even more terrifying to his hosts usually, considering they are trapped in their own brain, unable to control their body while still sometimes able to see and feel what’s happening.
Interestingly, his personality also tends to be affected somewhat by his host; if the person he’s possessing was someone very chatty, he tends to talk a lot too. If it was someone with a particular dislike towards something, such as a type of food, he’ll reflect this too. Right now, the notable host-driven trait he has is his parenty tendencies, such as seeing Taiga as his daughter of sorts, and Konjou as a grandchild.
All in all, deep down he has a very simplistic, almost childlike view of the world, and he can’t fully grasp the harm he’s doing, because he was never really allowed to “grow” to it and learn to grasp things like morality, empathy, etc. (This is of course his own fault, for choosing to try and force his rebirth instead of doing it like you’re supposed to)
Ryoushi in turn, to put it short, was a confident, cheerful and a bit reckless of an idiot, who even now cares deeply for his family and kids, and is willing to do anything for them (such as splintering his soul to prevent Hanzoku from fully manifesting)
BG story:
The exact date of Hanzoku’s “birth” is unknown, but according to Yuushi, he ended up not wanting to leave the people he’d bonded with at the time, and instead of requesting the hive-mind to let him go and be reborn as a living soul to stay and have a chance to meet them again, he tried to force the transformation. He did this mainly because rebirth would mean him being born as a baby with no memory of his past self; even if he would run into these people again, he would not remember them.
Unfortunately forcing the issue caused him to accidentally destroy these people’s souls, driving him mad with grief and turning him into a rogue Vestige, a “Lost soul” as Yuushi calls it.
After that event, this lost Vestige took up the name “Hanzoku” and in his twisted, grief stricken mind (as a former DV, he was not used to feeling grief and didn’t know how to cope with it) came to the conclusion that everyone deserved to be allowed to be truly themselves, without any limitations whatsoever, just like what he’d chosen to do in his mind. This of course, led to a lot of unnecessary deaths and massacres, including several other Vestiges sent after him by the hive to try and stop him, unable to do so for a while. They eventually had to team up with mortal demon hunters to help at least sealing him away for a periods of time.
(Yuushi has theorized it was also a form of revenge towards his former “parent” for what happened, because again, Hanzoku was reborn into a new being with emotion, a being that was born into a lot of negative feelings. He simply wasn’t capable of dealing with it properly due to his complete inexperience, so it drove him mad.)
The latest sealing before current times was actually not done with the help of demon hunters, but a telepath clan from foreign land who’d recently arrived there. These telepaths, due to their abilities and unique souls, were able to resist Hanzoku’s power far better than any demon hunter. (A clan, which the protagonists of this OC group (Milo and Silas) happen to be members of, as well as Shou, Claude and Caelan.)
All was well for over a century or so, up until a cult of personality awakened him again, and a young demon hunter, a father, attempting to stop them ends up becoming his vessel....
Fun facts:
He has white markings on his arms mimicking the crack pattern Death Vestiges typically have, the only difference pretty much being the color.
His eye-color is the same as Ryoushi’s, with just the eye-whites and irises being inverted. (purple and yellow whites where normally you’d just have a purple and yellow iris)
The scar across his face was done by one of the cultists, before Ryuoshi was possessed. Since it was done beforehand, Hanzoku couldn’t regenerate it away. Same goes for the scars on Ryoushi’s arm, they are also visible on Hanzoku.
The current hair-length was not what Ryoushi’s hair was; it was much shorter, but it grew when he was possessed as Hanzoku’s original body had long hair (something pretty common for DV’s) Once his possession was over, his hair grayed out and lost the vibrant blond color. (the orange hue comes from Hanzoku, whose hair was more ginger back when he still was a DV)
The bottom half of his outfit was part of Ryoushi’s hunter outfit, which was similar in shape to what Toshiko (his daughter) wears now, with just different colors and patterns to match his theme of panther.
Each time Hanzoku is exorcised and sealed away, his “sibling” will always first try to talk sense to him, as of course the Death hive-mind doesn’t really want to do this to one of its former kin. So far, Hanzoku hasn’t listened.
Hanzoku is somewhat curious about Ryoushi’s family, and isn’t exactly pleased by the fact they’ve chosen to actively oppose him, as he’d rather not harm them. (he will if he has to, but he’ll be miffed about it for a day or two)
Like Yuushi, Hanzoku is fond of tea, whereas Ryoushi doesn’t like it.
Ryoushi did wear something to cover his chest, half of the outfit just got destroyed during the battle before the possession, and Hanzoku never bothered to fix it, choosing to just wear the large cloak instead.
Ryoushi, as a Demon hunter, was known for being really fast and having a strong sixth-sense for danger. He was also very good at trailing souls and demonic/dark magic energy - like a proper hunter.
Hanzoku means “Rebellious child/Rebel” whereas Ryoushi’s full name translates to “Hunter panther.”
Due to him being essentially a rebel, he doesn’t really mind even when one of his more temperamental followers Azure sometimes acts rude and blunt, even towards him in rare cases.
Hanzoku tends to question Yuushi as to why he chooses to oppose him, when he clearly holds strong feelings towards his anchor as well. (there’s a whole confrontation I imagine where Yuushi removes his mask to talk with him, switching from “We” to “I” to imply that he does get Hanzoku, but also pointing out if doing it his way meant destroying the very reason he’d want to stay, its not worth it)
After possession, Ryoushi ages rapidly briefly to catch up with his true age, ending up with gray hair and darker gray beard.
He still feels immense guilt about everything that happened, thus ends up often hiding his face. He also did sympathize with Hanzoku having learned his story, seeing him pretty much the same way Yuushi did; a lost soul who made a big mistake, costing him everything he cared for, and his sanity, all because he just didn’t have the necessary tools to cope with things.
Last evening, after I’d already closed my laptop for the day, I felt the need to draw something still, so I decided to dig out my markers instead. I did end up adjusting this digitally somewhat to smooth some stuff, as some of the markers used were lowkey dried out, and I didn’t like the blotchy look in some areas lmao
