I watched Love, Simon recently

And one of my favorite scenes is where his friends tell their parents they are heterosexual.

Everybody in the room laughed at their parents exaggerated reaction and thought about how ridiculous this scene is. And I hoped everyone had a moment of enlightenment. Because of course it's ridiculous! But the reaction shown in the film are real! That's how some people react or even worse. They displayed how a coming out scene actually looks like, but with homosexuality being the norm. And that was their reaction: Laughter. Because IT IS ridiculous how something like sexuality can cause such a scene.

It shows another perspective.

In this moment everybody should realise why coming out is so unnecessary, and the fact that heterosexuality is still seen as "normal" in our society, and why it's wrong. You should be able to bring your girlfriend, boyfriend or whatever home without your family expecting your special someone is from the opposite sex. And I hope someday we will be at this point where no body gives a shit about your sexual preferences or your fucking gender.
