Hard West coming soon to Nintendo Switch
Concept art for the game “Hard West”

Recently started playing both Hard West, and Weird West. I put a couple hours into Hard West, and while it plays pretty good, the writing kinda sucks, and the episodic story telling where all my cool stuff goes away as a reward for winning is not my favorite thing. I know that some RTS (i think) kind of games are known for that but it's not my bag.
Weird West is, as a whole, maybe a little less competent, technically, but a way better game to me. Still isometric, still episodic, but a huge improvement is that you can get your STUFF back by recruiting the characters from previous stories, and some improvements roll over too. It's one long narrative, and I get the vibe that the devs really like Pathologic, the writing is still kinda hokey, but the pulpy design makes that way more charming than Hard West's Grimdark Scowl.
The controls are mapped seemingly intended for controller, but you can use the Keyboard and Mouse. Pick whatever one you like cause they're both terrible. I mentioned the unlocked skills earlier, but I don't really use them, and that's because you have to open two menus and hit a selection button to activate them, all in the middle of combat. I almost die any time i try to use them. Going to town sucks cause there's only one that has all the stores and crafts people you need, so get used to crossing the entire map every time your tiny inventory fills up. Fights are hectic and painful. At some point I got an ability that slows down time when I dodge, so I can fire guns while jumping through the air (hell yeah), and that's basically how I fight now cause aiming is so impossibly difficult otherwise. It's also the only skill that you can use without the double menu thing, ALTHOUGH, it uses your skill meter, so you can only do it 5 times before you have to start scrambling, or drink a potion that fills it.
Janky as it is, though, the game WORKS and is still very fun to play. I think I'm about halfway through unless it speeds up a lot, and ~20hrs in.
The Wild West is one of the most beloved themes out there, and these are the best games set in it.
It was only natural that this iconic Wild West charm bled into video games as well, and game developers started to pick the West as the setting of their game and a cowboy as the game’s protagonist. Here are a few of the best Western games that are guaranteed to put you in the sweaty boots of a gritty cowboy to truly make you feel the air of the Wild West.
