6. First fic/pairing you wrote for? (If no pairing, describe the plot)
Okay, okay, the actual answer is Nick Miller and Jessica Day from New Girl– which if you know me at all, makes total sense given my total and terrifying identification with the former’s sad sack elements. In the spirit of full disclosure, I must admit that many years ago, in my fandom infancy I did the following:
1) Wrote a short, weird Tobias Beecher/Chris Keller from Oz fic. I have no idea where it is or where it debuted but I know that only I could take a canon m/m couple and write something with no sex and chess metaphors. Are you surprised I didn’t write again until 2013? I’m not. Also, it was like a paragraph long. People were mostly kind though I was asked where the cock-action went.
2) Contemplated co-writing an Angel fic with a fandom friend SOLELY so that the case of the week client, a reincarnated Incan warrior woman, could have the following conversation with Angel:
R.I.W.W. (can’t remember her name but we researched this and it was AWESOME) holds up a pair of leather pants. “Okay, look what I found in the back of your closet. Why don’t you put these bad boys on and go interrogate some shady characters.”
Angel looks queasy in only the way Angel can and mutters, “No. Not those. They remind me of… a time in my life I’d rather forget.”
R.I.W.W. inspects leather pants, front and back. “Why? Are these your fat pants?”
THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT.
12. A fic you wish you had written better, and why?
Oh geez. So, as some of you know about the dreaded WRITERS MEME OF DOOM that I’ve been struggling with since December. (Monday night chat crew, I’m looking at you)Basically, it’s a meme where you list what you wrote for the year, word count, kudo count, blah blah blah and discuss all the good things and bad things about your output. I did it last year and it was fine.
I started working on 2014′s in December and EVERY TIME I TRY TO FINISH IT I WIND UP IN A CORNER SHAKING AND CRYING. I reread all of my stuff so I could answer and everything looks like straight up garbagetown. So there’s all these what line do you like, what intro do you like, what is your best description type nonsense and I’m just screaming NOTHING I LIKE NOTHING into the void.
It’s actually affecting my writing, everything I write is the worst.
I want all my stories to be better, I want to be a cleaner writer. I’m a little messy and esoteric. I’d like to be more accessible but not cheesy, easier to read but not dumbed down. I wish my grammar was a million times better. I wish my English was better. I wish I was more educated. I wish I had a pony with a rainbow tail.
Okay, that last one was a lie, but you get the gist. There’s a whole lot of wishing going on and the only way to get past this is to keep working on it. And yeah, I’ve been having a horrible time of it of late. I can only do my best.
This is such a fun answer! I’m sorry for everyone. I’m not a sad sack, I swear. :)
