It was a sunny afternoon. Harry's wife had gone out to get some groceries after putting their lovely little two year olds to an afternoon nap. Harry was in the home studio, working on a new song for a couple of days now, saying that inspiration had struck him.
He was too immersed in what he was doing to hear the pitter patter of tiny feet and the little hands pushing his studio door open. It was only when a little hand grabbed a fistful of his shirt and pulled on it that he noticed them. Little Charlotte and Oliver were up from their nap and had come in, in search of their father. Charlie had a little stuffed bunny clutched tightly against her chest. Her curls were sticking in every which way.
He took off his headphones and picked her up,
“Hi Charlie-girl,” he cooed.
“Why are you up early, hm? Do you wanna sleep for a little more?”
“Daddy,” he heard another little voice from the corner of the room. Oliver was standing near the coffee table, in his hand a paper which was on the table, now crumpled.
“Hi Ollie, c'mere, baby,” he called out to the toddler.
He waddled over to his father with his hands up towards him, expecting to be picked up. With Charlie in one hand, Harry scooped up her brother into the other, settling them in his hold and then pressing little kisses to their chubby cheeks.
“Why are you cheeky munchkins up, hm? Didn't mumma put you down for a nap?”
“No daddy, don't wanna sleep,” Ollie said, raising his finger as if saying no.
Harry chuckled, “okay, okay, no sleep then. Do you wanna listen to a song?”
“Yes daddy,” they replied in unison. Harry couldn't help but smile. There was hardly a day that went by when the twins didn't wander into his studio asking for music, and he secretly loved that they did. Adjusting them on his hips, he walked over to the piano and sat down, and then placed Charlotte on one side and Oliver on the other.
“Ready, bubbies?” he asked, glancing between them.
“Ready,” they shouted. Harry's fingers lowered onto the keys of the piano as he played the first few lines of ‘Mary had a Little Lamb,’ one of the twins' favourites, and within seconds Charlotte was swaying happily, trying to sing along, whereas Oliver watched his father's hands moving swiftly over the keys. After a moment's hesitation, he carefully stretched out one finger and pressed a single white key, the sound cutting through the melody.
Harry looked down at him, feigning surprise before a laugh escaped him.
"Oh, have I got a little pianist helping me now, hm?" he teased, seamlessly weaving the rogue note into the melody instead of stopping.
“Keep going Ollie baby, you're doing well,” he praised the little boy. Oliver giggled and reached for another key and he was far more confident this time. Charlotte, watching all this, dissolved into a round of applause. Harry couldn't stop smiling. Even though the song no longer sounded quite like Mary Had a Little Lamb, he thought it sounded even better this way.

These past couple of months have been nothing but the bliss and relaxation that they’ve been needing for the past two years of being on tour—for the past 14 years of their career in the band. This is by far the longest break they’ve taken from performing on stage, interviews—from the rest of the world.
Since going on their second honeymoon, the couple has kept a low profile traveling to some of their favorite places: walking along the beaches in Jamaica, getting tipsy at their favorite karaoke bars (before they got pregnant) in Tokyo, and going to see Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House in London.
But since discovering that baby Styles was growing in YN’s belly, they’ve decided to momentarily pause their travels in Rome. When the time comes, they’ll travel back to England where their baby will be born. Their baby is an Englishman, through and through.
Being the dutiful husband that he is, Harry has been running errands while his wife sits at home to keep her growing belly away from the watchful eyes of paps and fans, seems like a must. Still undecided about when to share their news with the rest of the world, YN keeps herself busy with things like making music or reading to her belly.
She humors Harry with her pregnancy milestones. Like the time she called him into the shower to let him know that she officially can’t see her toes anymore (which led him having to put her socks on for her). Or the time they were watching a movie on the couch and she suddenly wondered if she could still do the splits with her baby belly. He watched with a humored smile at her impromptu demonstration and laughed when she wondered if she could still twerk too. After finding out she still could, he told her to be careful because “that’s how you got pregnant in the first place.”
So as much as he doesn’t mind running errands, he can’t help but wish that his love was beside him. Call him lovesick, but when hasn’t he been?
Before he’s ready to take off, he taps his jean pockets before calling out to his wife, “Babe!”
“Yeah?” Her voice comes from somewhere upstairs.
“Have y’seen my keys?”
“Yeah, up here!”
When he enters their bedroom, he stops in his tracks. He sees her sitting on the end of the bed in a sports bar and her jeans unbuttoned as she bends over to tie her shoelaces—well, trying to.
“Hey, hey,” Harry quickly goes to her struggling fingers and begins tying the laces himself. “Be careful, my love. Squishing my baby in there.”
“Yeah well, tell yeh baby that is he could stop pressing down on me bladder,” YN plops down on the bed behind her with a huff, her arms spread out. “I’d really appreciate that.”
“She can’t help it, darlin’.” One of the many late night conversations (debates) they’ve been having lately is what they think their baby is going to be. Harry’s wishing for a girl while YN’s very adamant about them having a boy. “She’s growing big and strong in there,” He places his hands gently on her belly and coos, “It’s that right, my sweet girl?”
“Stop,” She laughs once his kisses on her taut skin begin to tickle from his facial hair. She pushes his head away with a playful shove, “Stop, you’re smothering him.”
Once he’s finished securing the laces into a bow, he stops to question, “You gonna take a walk around the garden again, baby?”
Being housebound by choice can come with its downsides. So to avoid the inevitable cabin fever that has already begun to bubble up inside of her, one of the ways she keeps herself sane is taking walks around their private villa. There’s truly nothing like strolling around the property filled with giant trees, bushes with various flowers growing the perimeter, and feeling the summer sun on her skin.
The time off has been very much needed, but if she were speaking freely, she has to admit that she’s getting bored.
YN lifts up her hands towards her husband and he gently helps her stand up on her feet.
“No. M’joining you today.”
Her words make him physically pause.
“You sure?” He hesitates. As much as the thought of having her by his side again excites him, nothing is more important than making sure that she’s comfortable. With her going out, it increases the possibility that someone can not only recognize the two, but figure out that her belly is getting bigger with their child growing.
They aren’t ready to share the news with the rest of the world yet, but when they do find out, it's going to be on their terms.
“Yeah. I want to.” She puts her hands on her belly and the smile she gives him is enough reassurance, as is. “Wearing one of yeh hoodies can be big enough to cover him. And as long as I don’t hug anyone, I think I’ll be alright.”
He leans down to press a kiss to her lips, sealing the deal. Before he pulls away, he mumbles against her lips, “Her.”
“Just go get my bag, Styles,” she laughs, eyes squeezing shut when he feverishly presses kisses into the crook of her neck.
And oh how the fans immediately take notice—not of her belly, but of how sweet Harry’s being on her. It’s been a while since the people have seen him with his other half and if they didn’t know any better, it seemed like he hadn’t seen her altogether in weeks. He constantly has an arm around the tops of her shoulders and will press a kiss into her hair when walking down the cobblestone pathways. The one time he lets go of her hand is to buy her a small bouquet of flowers from the local vendor. And it would be silly of Harry not to see his wife’s pregnancy cravings kicking in when they pass by a gelato shop. And it would also be silly to be surprised when he has to switch cones with her when she suddenly likes his flavor better.
And there's something so glowly, so radiant about her that the people can't quite put their finger on it.
After putting their errand bags in the car—they almost forgot the reason for going out—Harry goes to open the door for his wife but pauses when he sees the look on her face. He sees how her eyes scan to somewhere in the distance with the tiniest furrow of her brows, her eyes beginning to squint. He doesn’t even try to hide the amused look on his face and instead leans a forearm on the vehicle as he patiently waits for what’s to come. Her nostrils widen a bit, “Do you smell pastrami?”
Harry can’t hold back his laugh. Being in shape for a two-year long world tour was a must. Since then, the couple has maintained a fairly healthy lifestyle—moreso Harry while YN still likes to enjoy a bit of junk food every now and then. Yet, it’s been a while since she’s indulged in something like a beefy, greasy sandwich.
Yup, definitely pregnancy cravings.
The inevitable comes sooner than later as they turn their attention towards the two ladies saying their names. Harry—already taking in a breath to gently decline the request to take a picture with the two fans—is interrupted by YN’s sweet acceptance.
The couple stands behind the two ladies as they take a group selfie. Thankfully, YN has her flowers to discreetly hold in front of her belly as she gives the camera a smile. But before they depart, YN asks them where’s the best place to get a pastrami sandwich in the area.

— Porra...Você vai me matar, me apertando assim...
— Ah! É! — Ele coçou a nuca.
summary: harry is your husband and you are following him on his europe tour. halfway through you get quite sick which causes harry to get very worried about you especially because you're carrying a little secret
word count: 5k
warnings: none
Berlin was always one of your favourite places to visit. You found the city to be fascinating and the people there were always lovely. However this time around, you hadn't been able to really see it at all.
At his previous show in Poland, you had begun to feel a bit achy and tired but you had just put it down to poor sleep and always being on the move. However, after the day after the show, you had woken up to an excruciating headache, a chesty cough and you felt like you had a fever. During that day as you travelled from Poland to Germany, you had tried to play down how sick you were, not wanting to stress out your husband or distract him from his tour and so he remained mostly unaware of how awful you felt during that day. You arrived in Berlin late at night and went straight to the hotel. But at this point, you were starting to feel dizzy and you knew you needed to see a doctor. You knew you had the flu and in most normal circumstances you would just power through but not everything about your current circumstances was normal.
You were pregnant with Harry's baby. You had found out just before the Wembley show in London and you had been over the moon. You and Harry had been trying so luckily it wasn't a bad shock for you when the result came through as positive. You had told Harry and he had cried happy tears as he scooped you up into his arms, telling you how excited he was and how you would be the best mum. Since then he had become very protective of you, making sure you were always comfortable and trying the very best for you and your unborn baby. It had made you fall in love with him all over again. However, now that you were sick, you knew if you told him how ill you felt, he would panic and probably end up doing something rash, like cancel the show so he could be with you and you really didn't want him to do that.
So as you arrived at the hotel, and you knew you needed to see someone to check everything was ok, you sought out Sarah. Sarah and Mitch were some of the few people on the tour with you who you had told about the baby. Sarah had been really helpful during your first trimester as you struggled with morning sickness and the exhaustion you had felt.
You knocked on her hotel room door and it was quickly opened by Mitch who stared at you in confusion.
"Could I speak to Sarah?" you rasped, throat beginning to hurt now as well. Mitch quickly realised something wasn't right and let you in, helping you over to an armchair in the room and calling for Sarah, who was in the bathroom. She rushed out and came over to you, kneeling by your side.
"Oh love, what's up," she asked worried as you coughed, holding your hand against your head.
"I'm really ill. I think I need to see a doctor," you managed to get out and Sarah was quickly gesturing at Mitch to get her a phone.
"Ok, how long have you been feeling like this?" she questioned as Mitch handed her her phone and she scrolled to try and find the number for the doctor they had on tour with them.
"Probably since the last show," you mumbled, closing your eyes to try and lessen the thumping pain in your head. You heard the dial tone of Sarah's phone and her begin to explain to the doctor that he needed to come and see you. She explained your symptoms and also that you were pregnant and he said he would be right up. She put down the phone and held onto your hand as you waited.
"Does Harry know?" she whispered tentatively and you slowly shook your head.
"Y/N. You should tell him," Sarah told you but you shook your head again.
"He'll worry too much. He's already spending way too much time fretting about me and I just want him to focus on doing the best shows he can," you explained, sniffling slightly and Sarah just sighed but said nothing more. She knew you should have told him, but she respected your reasons for not doing so.
The doctor arrived quickly and gave you an examination to make sure everything was still ok with the baby, as well as prescribing you some medication to help with the flu. He told you that it was very important that you got some rest over the next couple of days and didn't push yourself at all. You agreed nervously, knowing it would be hard to explain to Harry why you were spending all day in bed. But you needed to do it for the health of your baby so you nodded along to whatever the doctor was saying.
After he left, you trudged back to your hotel room, still feeling horrible but the doctor had given you some pills so your symptoms were slightly less intense. You opened the door and chuckled slightly at the sight in front of you. Harry was fully clothed and face down on the bed, snoring slightly. You knew he was exhausted, it often happened halfway into the tour. You went about getting ready for bed, leaving him to sleep for a bit longer before you slowly shuffled round to his side of the bed, pushing the hair out of his face and giving him a small kiss on the head. His eyes fluttered open and he smiled softly when he saw you above him.
"Hi love," he mumbled sleepily.
"Let's get you to bed," you whispered, half to keep quiet and half because your throat was so sore that talking was quite difficult at the moment. He nodded as he pushed himself off the bed and padded into the bathroom. You went around the bed and clambered in, tucking yourself under the covers as the fever was making you shiver slightly, even though you knew you were hot to touch. You could feel yourself falling in and out of consciousness as Harry moved quietly around the room getting ready for bed. Eventually, he got into the bed beside you, frowning slightly when he noticed how hot you felt to touch and how you couldn't really focus on him.
"You ok love?" he wondered, scared that something might be wrong with the baby. You hummed back in response, too tired and ill to even be able to speak. Harry could tell he wasn't going to be able to get anything out of you as you were too tired but he couldn't help but worry. You had been strangely quiet all day, barely even saying a word and you had slept for the majority of it but you seemed exhausted now.
He had a fitful sleep, consumed by anxiety over whether you were ok. He kept waking up to check that you were still ok and he wished he could check that the baby was ok as well. He woke up in the morning, not feeling rested at all and frowned when he turned over and found that you were not lying next to him. Usually, he would wake up first and then wake you up with gentle kisses and touches but today that was not the case. He could see the light from the bathroom was on and guessed you were in there. He could hear retching and he cursed himself for not being there to help you through your morning sickness.
"Babe?!" he called out, quickly throwing off the covers and rushing into the bathroom where you were leaning on the toilet, face pale and clammy, dark circle under your eyes and you were trembling slightly. You looked horrible, worse than you usually looked when you had morning sickness. Harry's heart dropped when he saw you, it killed him to see the love of his life looking so unwell. He dropped down beside you, gathering your hair up in his hands and slowly rubbing your back as you retched and gagged.
"I'm sorry," you mumbled as you collapsed back against him. You had never felt worse in your life, the morning sickness combined with your flu had you feeling like you might not actually survive this.
"Baby, why are you apologising?" Harry questioned, stunned you'd try and apologise for being unwell.
"Because I can't imagine this is nice to deal with," you explained but he shook his head.
"Y/N, you are everything to me. I will always be there for you when you're feeling gross and sick because I love you so much. M' your husband love, I will look after you for the rest of my life," he professed and tears pricked your eyes. You felt so guilty for not telling him you were sick now because you could hear in his voice how worried he was about you.
"C'mon, let's get you back into bed," he said as he lifted you into his arms, letting you rest your weary head on his shoulder. He knew there was something going on other than your morning sickness, you looked too unwell. He gently placed you down on the bed, kneeling down beside you.
"Wanna tell me what's going on?" he whispered to you and you sighed, knowing you needed to come clean.
"I'm not feeling very well. At all. I have the flu," you admitted. Harry ran his hands over his face before settling one hand on yours, giving it a squeeze.
"How long have you felt like this?" he inquired, knowing you would have tried to pretend like it was fine for as long as possible.
"Not very long," you tried but Harry shook his head.
"C'mon love, don't pretend to be ok. Let me help you," he pleaded.
"Haven't been feeling great since the last show."
"Ok, do we need to go see a doctor? Do you think the baby is ok?" he asked, eyes full of worry for his unborn child and you. You shook your head.
"I... um... well I saw the doctor last night," you told him and you felt horrible when you saw the sadness in his eyes.
"Baby, why didn't you tell me? I just came here and fell asleep like an idiot when I should have been there for you," he said, placing a hand on your forehead and flinching when he felt how hot you were. You shrugged slightly, squeezing your eyes shut so the tears that were threatening to fall down your cheeks wouldn't slip out. You had become a lot more emotional since getting pregnant and would cry at the smallest things.
Deep down, Harry knew exactly why you hadn't told him. You had always been very selfless and would only complain about something if it was really bad. He knew you didn't like to distract him from his work and he knew you hated it when he was overly worried about you. You always wanted him to be comfortable and happy on tour and focused on the fans and his music and not be concerned about you.
"Love, when will you realise that I will always worry about you. You're my love, my wife and the mother of my child. You are my first priority always," he insisted and you sniffled slightly.
"I know," you whimpered, feeling so bad for not telling Harry you were sick.
"Oh my love, please don't cry, it's ok," he tried to soothe you. "I just want you to be ok, yeah, so let me look after you."
"But your tour? You have a really busy day H," you pointed out and he scoffed.
"Fuck the tour. You're more important," he declared but you shook your head, sighing.
"Harry, you can't cancel your show over me. You just can't. I won't let you. It will make me feel worse if you do," you told him, your fears of him trying to do something rash because of your sickness coming true. He groaned slightly, knowing that you wouldn't back down over this and also that you were right. He couldn't just cancel a show but he didn't want to go to work and not be able to look after you. But he had an idea.
"Ok, listen I won't cancel the show, but you need to let me look after you. Come with me today, I'll make sure you have a place you can rest for the whole day. If you're too sick, that's fine, you can stay here and rest love, but if you can, please come with me. I wanna make sure you and the little one are alright," he begged. You could tell he was really going to struggle to leave you here on your own, and secretly you wanted to come and have him look after you although you would never admit it. So you nodded and he breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, love. If at any point you need to come back here, just let me know and we will. Now, let me get you some clean clothes and we'll go from there."
He helped you up, getting you out of your pyjamas, which your skin was sticking to due to your fever although you just felt cold. You whimpered loudly when you sat naked in the bed, intensely shivering and Harry ran around quickly getting you some new clothes, his heart breaking to see you so ill. He grabbed a big hoodie of his and some of your leggings out of the closet, as well as some underwear. Weakly, you let him dress you, your body using his for support as he pulled the jumper over your head. Once he had got you into clean clothes, he pulled you into his lap, holding you and rocking you to try and soothe you. It worked slightly, you found yourself relaxing in the arms of your love and it relieved some of the aches you felt in your body.
"Have you got some medicine?" he inquired and you nodded, telling him it was in your washbag in the bathroom. He found the medicine the doctor had prescribed you and got you some water so you could take it.
"Can I get you some breakfast?" he asked and you groaned at the thought of food. Nausea from the morning sickness and the fact you had lost your appetite made food sound very unappealing.
"Love you need to eat something. For the baby," he urged you and you knew he was right. The baby needed sustenance, so you needed to eat.
"Nothing too heavy," you conceded and he nodded. He tucked you back into bed, pressing a kiss to your forehead and promised he'd be back soon and went off in search of some breakfast. When he returned with a range of items, he found you asleep, snoring slightly as your body tried to fight off your illness. He smiled softly, glad you were getting some much-needed rest, before settling himself in the adjoining room, which had a sofa and table in it and started eating some breakfast he had acquired for himself.
You slept for most of the morning, until about 11am, when Harry woke you up, quietly telling you that he was needed in about an hour at the venue to rehearse. Your heart swelled when you saw what he had got you for breakfast. He had bought you a range of options as he had apparently gone to Sarah to ask her what he should get you to make sure he got it right. He had bought you some yoghurt and bananas as well as different types of cereal so you could choose the one you wanted. He had also got you some ginger tea because he had read somewhere that ginger helped with morning sickness. You felt so lucky at that moment to have such a caring and sweet husband who would do anything for you.
You slowly ate breakfast, to try and keep everything down and the ginger tea really did help. Harry helped you shower and get ready for the day before packing a bag for you full of blankets, your medicine, some water and things to get you through the day. You set off for the venue around 12, you slumped against Harry in the car while he rubbed your back, pressing small gentle kisses all over your face. When you arrived, Harry found two couches in the dressing room which he pushed together to make a bed for you. He covered it in blankets and cushions and helped you get settled. As sick as you were you wanted to smother him with love for what he was doing for you. You were so thankful.
Eventually, he had to leave to go to rehearsals but it took a lot of convincing on your part to get him to leave you. Jeff basically had to drag him away and he looked very grumpy as he sulked off towards the stage. You settled down and began to drift off again, the distant sound of Harry's voice calming you down as you listened to him playing.
You rested all afternoon, Harry periodically coming into check on you. Whenever he had a spare moment, he would immediately rush to be by your side, making sure you were getting enough liquids and rest and helping you eat something here and there. As the afternoon turned into the evening, Harry became busier and busier and was finding it hard to get back to you and make sure you were ok. He was getting frustrated with people as they kept pulling him in different places and he was getting snappy. Jeff sighed as he noticed Harry getting irritable, knowing he only needed to see his wife but they were running late already and he couldn't really pull him away yet. Selfishly, Jeff needed Harry to stay where he was so he could make sure everything went to plan.
You remained unaware of this, as you were snoozing away in the dressing room, listening to a podcast on your phone, your hand absentmindedly rubbing your belly. You had started doing it when you got pregnant and it always relaxed you now. Harry was always rubbing it as well as if he was in awe that a tiny person was growing inside you. You could tell he was already going to be an amazing father, especially after how he treated you today.
You slept right through into the evening, your body craving rest as it fought off the illness, but it did mean you had slept right through dinner and Harry hadn't been there to make sure you'd eaten. Therefore you woke up at around 8:30, half an hour before Harry was due to go on stage, feeling groggy and weak due to the lack of food. You groaned as you stretched out your muscles, mumbling out Harry's name but soon realised he wasn't there. No one was, the dressing room was completely empty. You sighed slightly as you realised you would have to get up to find some food, but you knew you had to eat so you pushed your sore body off the couch and shuffled to the door. You wandered through the corridors slowly, trying not to move too fast to aggravate your already sore head. You began to get frustrated as you failed to find any food or someone you could ask to get you something as everyone was running about looking very busy. Not wanting to cause a fuss, you sadly began making your way back to the dressing room. Halfway back, you heard someone yell out your name and turned around to see Harry running towards you, a concerned look plastered on his face.
"Baby, what are you doing out here?" he asked as he pulled you into his arms.
"Just trying to get some dinner," you muttered pulling back from Harry who frowned.
"You haven't eaten?" You shook your head in response and he swore under his breath. "I fucking told Jeff to get you some food like an hour ago, are you shitting me?!"
"Harry it's ok, don't worry, I'll find some food," you insisted but he was too angry now.
"No, you should be getting some rest not wandering around trying to get food! I want you to be better love and Jeff should have bought you something. He knows you're pregnant as well," Harry continued, clenching his fists as he looked around trying to find Jeff so he could chew him out.
"Harry please, I don't want to cause any trouble," you tried again.
"Love, you really arent so please stop saying that. You're ill and you're carrying m'baby in there and I need to make sure you're ok and fed and that the little bubba is too," he said firmly and your gaze softened because you knew he was just getting angry because he was worried about the baby. You stood on your tiptoes and pressed a chaste kiss to his lips and cupped his cheek with your hand.
"I love you H. And I love that you care so much about me. About us," you began as you cupped your stomach. "But right now, you've got a show to put on and I want you to go out there and give it your all. I will be ok and I will find some food and after the show, we can go home right away and you can look after me as much as you want, yeah," you proposed and his demeanour softened, the anger fading from his eyes. He nodded slowly, pulling you into his arms as you swayed back and forth. Eventually, he pulled back and pressed another kiss to your lips.
"I love you. So much," he professed and you smiled into the kiss, feeling overwhelmingly in love with the man that stood before you.
"I love you too. Sorry I can't watch the show," you apologised and he shook his head.
"Don't apologise. Just need you to get better for me love," he told you.
He pulled away slowly, and begun to walk you back to your dressing room. You pretended like you couldn't see him angrily texting Jeff to get you some food. You could see him violently typing in the corner of your eye and you rolled your eyes at your husband's antics. He got you settled back onto the sofa and glared at Jeff as he sheepishly arrived with food for you. You sent Jeff an apologetic look which didn't get missed by Harry.
"Doesn't deserve your apology," he mumbled into your skin as he was sitting underneath you, with you curled up on his lap and his face pressed into your neck. You rolled your eyes as you tentatively spooned soup into your mouth and chewed on some bread.
"H, you need to go," you pushed as he continued to cling onto you, his arms wrapped around your waist under your jumper, softly holding your belly with his large hands.
"Don't wanna."
"Harry," you warned and he huffed as he let you go and you clambered off him so he could move.
"Stay here love and get some rest. I'll be back before you know it," he said before kneeling down in front of you to kiss your belly, lifting the jumper you were wearing so a sliver of your skin was exposed.
"Be nice for Mum," he muttered as he pressed a kiss to your skin and you gazed down adoringly at him. You couldn't wait to have this baby with him, it was like he was destined to be a dad. He stood up and gave you a quick kiss.
"Eat all your soup love," he reminded you as you sat back down on the sofa, smiling as he grabbed a blanket and pulled it over you.
"You got this," you encouraged as he turned towards the door.
"Always love," he replied grinning as he left and you snuggled back down onto the sofa, enjoying your soup. You smiled as you heard the roar of the crowd, always so proud of your husband whenever you saw how many people would turn up just to see him play. He deserved every success in your eyes.
Harry returned an hour later. After making his way off stage, a couple of people tried to pull him in different directions but he was insistent on getting back to his wife. Jeff, having learnt his lesson, helped Harry get away from them and therefore all was forgiven between the two of them.
"I think Y/N's seeing the doctor right now," Jeff mentioned and Harry whirled his head around.
"Is she ok?! Is the baby ok?!" he rushed out but before Jeff had time to say yes, it was just a routine check-up, Harry was already sprinting down the corridor towards the dressing room. Jeff shook his head at Harry but he was happy to finally see the man so in love.
Your eyes grew wide as Harry crashed through the door of the dressing room where you were lying on the couch as the doctor listened to the baby's heartbeat.
"Is everything ok?" he asked urgently as he ran his hands through his hair in stress. You chuckled.
"Everything is fine H, he's just giving me a check-up," you explained as Harry sighed in relief, coming over to your side where he knelt down beside you, holding your hand. He watched as the doctor felt your stomach and checked your general health and relaxed when the doctor said he was happy with how things were progressing and that your bout of illness hadn't impacted the baby in any way. He also said you were improving generally and a couple more days of rest and you would be much better.
"Any questions?" the doctor said as he began to pack away his stuff and you sighed. Whenever any doctor asked Harry if he had any questions regarding you and your baby, he usually had about 100. You gave the doctor an apologetic look as he began to answer all of Harry's questions as unsurprisingly he had a lot. Eventually, you managed to pull Harry away and the doctor looked a bit relieved as he exited the room. You chuckled seeing Harry looking all grumpy because somehow he still had more questions.
"Babe, you can google it later or find the answer in one of those books you have," you told him, pulling off his top so he could get changed back into his normal clothes. He turned bright red at the mention of the books. He thought you hadn't noticed, but the day after you told him you were pregnant, he had bought every single book on pregnancy that he could find. You had found them stashed in his tote bag a few nights ago and you found it really sweet.
"What books?" he pretended as he grabbed his jumper that you were holding and pulled it over to his bed. You giggled as he hid his face in the hood, pulling the strings tight so only his nose was visible in the little gap. You pressed a soft kiss to it and he began to loosen the strings.
"It's cute babe," you reassured him and he shrugged, a bit embarrassed he'd been caught. Harry finished getting dressed and he made sure you were all ready to go. He looped an arm around your shoulders as he guided you out of the venue and towards the car.
Once you got back to the hotel, Harry sat you on the counter as he readied a bath for you. You were already beginning to feel a lot better, the day of rest having done wonders for you. You knew it was going to mean you would be behind on work but you didn't really care. You needed rest and seeing as your husband was technically your boss, as you worked alongside Jeff in organising Harry's tours, you thought you could probably get away with it. You watched him as he went about making sure the water temperature was right and your heart melted. He was so sweet to you.
He carefully undressed you and placed you in the bath before settling in behind you. He carefully washed you, massaging your shoulders and your head as he did. It felt incredible.
"M'so lucky to have you," you mumbled sleepily and he pressed a kiss to your head.
"You are everything to me," he responded lovingly as he got out of the bath from behind you and helped you out, still whispering the sweetest things in your ear. You both got ready for bed, settling down in the cool sheets. Harry had pushed up your top, so it was just resting beneath your chest and he was pressing slow, loving kisses to your stomach. Your eyes fluttered closed at the sensation.
"Sing to us?" you asked quietly. Harry had gotten into the habit of singing to you and the baby since you got pregnant. You had joked that the baby was going to come out already knowing all the lyrics to his songs, but you loved it when he did sing. You never would get tired of hearing your husband sing.
"Course love," he complied as he began to sing the opening verse of As It Was. He sang it slowly and much calmer than he usually would. You could feel yourself drifting off to the sound of his deep voice, his breath hot against the skin of your stomach.
'in this world, it's just us' he sang and you smiled softly. That was your favourite line of the song because it was true. Despite the chaos of it all, despite the millions of fans, the hundreds of shows and everything that came along with it, as long as you just had Harry and your baby it would be fine.
It was just the three of you, and that's all that mattered.

little one shot while i work on pt.2 of the flatshare in london, which is coming along nicely but is very time consuming and i was away at the weekend so i couldn't really write anything. sorry :(
A.N- This is one of my first series that I wrote after a long hiatus and I am just getting back to it. I hope who ever comes along for this journey, they enjoy it. I would love to hear everyone's thoughts, ideas, opinions. Enjoy!
Summary: In which Harry and Alena were college sweethearts, however, all of that has changed and the only thing keeping in contact is the fact that they have a child together. Is it possible for them to even get to a normal standing friendship or is that long gone?
Pain is something that is different to everyone but to me, it's caused by the distress and lack of control I feel as though I have in my life. I’m pained that I am not able to give my daughter the best life that she absolutely deserves. It pains me that she doesn’t have a two parent household, because growing up neither did I and I vowed everything inside of me that when the day came I had a child that I would pick the utmost perfect partner that would stick around and be madly love with me in which we would make a life for ourselves and have that happy ever after - but unfortunately those cards were not on the table for me.
I live a pretty generic life I would say. I work a 9-5 as a social media manager and editor for a top design magazine, I have a tight knit friend group, as well as a dog and a house and a daughter. I’m not the crazy going out type of girl, or the hook-up kind of girl. I keep to myself, take care of my daughter and live life to the best of my ability.
-
It’s an early Monday morning which means I need to get myself ready for work as well as my daughter ready for school. I am lucky enough to be able to work most of my days from home and the office is used as an as-needed basis especially since I am a single parent. I’ve never been one to take “ the easy way out” but I sure as hell will take advantage of situations that do benefit me.
My chestnut brown hair falling down my back as soon as I get out of bed, one quick look in the mirror and I can say thank the Lord himself that I work from home today. Over the years my hair has become unruly and quite the challenge to maintain. My skin slightly goose bumped due to the slight breeze in my bedroom, thanks to my ceiling fan. My feet are cold against the hardwood floors in my home, and I almost curse myself for not having enough carpet or rug in my room - when first purchasing my home I swore that carpet would not be part of the home's aesthetic but I would be young and dumb and would refuse to go back.
“ Good morning Sunshine” is my go-to for waking my daughter up in the morning, unfortunately my daughter is not a morning person - a trait that she picked up from her father. Her emerald green eyes stayed hidden from me as she did her absolute best to try and stay asleep as she knew that it was time to get up and ready for school.
“ It’s time to get up, Bubs, how are you going to become an Astronaut princess if you don’t go to school?” my arms embrace my daughter as I gently pick her up and walk her into the bathroom.
“ Mommy, my tummy hurts.” my froggy 5 year old croaked. Now that I think of it… she does feel a bit warm. I was lucky enough that she was typically an energetic child who looked forward to going to school and meeting her friends, another trait she got from her father, however, today seems to be different. I placed her down on the edge of the sink and placed my hand onto her forehead as she seemed to be burning up. I do my best to be a fair and strict parent, so I can instill a routine and boundaries but it wouldn’t be fair to send her to school like this.
“ It’s okay, Bubs. Why don’t you stay home today and rest up. Why don’t we give you a bath and you can lay down next to mommy while she works, yeah?” I make my way over to the tub and start running a bubble bath for her to enjoy. “ Stay still, mommy will text daddy so he knows not to pick you up from school later.”
Texting my daughter's father isn’t my least favorite thing to do, but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite by any means either. There is so much built up pain and history even when I see his name pop-up on my phone or even see a picture posted of him. Harry Styles. My childhood best friend, my first crush, my first love and my first heartbreak. How is it possible for one person to be so many of my firsts? Some would say that Harry & I ended on a mutual note but it doesn’t mean that it hurt any less. We did our best to try the long distance thing while we tried finding ourselves in college but one thing led to another and it didn’t last. After agreeing to end things, we met-up one night and one thing led to another and a few weeks later I found out that I’m pregnant. Harry is an amazing father and I couldn’t ask for anyone better for my daughter, but he was not a good partner. He often slept around, could not commit to anyone and played every girl like the fiddle. We tried once more after Aria was born but that is when he was unfaithful and would stay out late and it's almost as if his whole personality changed.I guess people do change while in college and even after.
“ Hey H, Bub’s isn’t feeling well. I’m going to keep her home with me today so no need to pick her up from school… thanks :)” I place my phone back down onto the counter and get Aria undressed for her bath. While allowing Aria to play around a bit in the bubbles I notice my phone has none stop been going off. 2 missed calls from Harry & 4 text messages. He’s so over dramatic. My phone rings again, before I could even say hello he gets his word in:
“ What the hell, why haven’t you answered your phone?” I could sense his annoyance over the phone.
“ Because I am bathing our daughter and I believe her cleanliness is more important than worrying about my phone” I could see his eyes rolling already.
“ What’s wrong with her? What happened?” His concern for Aria is something I could admire and could almost push past all the horrible things he has done to me in the past.
“ Harry, she’s sick. She’s around other sick kids almost everyday… it was practically bound to happen. She’ll be fine in no time… she just needs to rest for the day and drink fluids and cuddle. I promise you I won’t let anything happen to your precious angel.” The last sentiment of my statement to Harry was meant more as sarcasm but in all honesty, she really is an angel and couldn't ask for a more perfect child.
“ Erm, yeah.. Okay. Can I stop over after work later on? I can pick up some dinner for us three and maybe watch a movie with her…” I can sense the hesitation in his voice. Harry and I had an agreement that we would be civil parents for Aria, but I would prefer to not have “family hangouts” as much as I could avoid it. As much as I wanted a two-parent household for my daughter, I refused to confuse her anymore and give her a false hope that Harry and I would ever get back together. However, there are some exceptions to this rule and tonight is one of them. One thing I hold my ground on is never holding Harry back with Aria or anytime he wants to spend with her.
“ That would be nice, Har… thank you. Just let me know what time you think you’ll be over later on tonight, and remember.…her bed times 9:00 PM” a gentle smile plastered on my face when I look back over at my daughter while she plays with the bubbles in her bath.
“ Of course, give her a kiss for me to hold her off until I get there” before I could even say goodbye the line drops.

The day was filled with many email correspondences, phone calls as well as planning for the upcoming next few months. Being the lead editor for one of the top design magazines in the country was no easy job by any means, but my passion and dedication for the job was what makes it all worth it. I’ve been very fortunate as well to have a very understanding team behind me which were my top supporters, and they absolutely adore Aria.
Besides all of the work I needed to attend to, cuddles and a napping child were on my top priority list as well. I mostly worked from my couch today, which I excuse to my child being needy because she wasn’t feeling well but I would be lying to say that I just didn’t want to leave her side as well. For a while, it was mostly just the two of us together navigating through the world with no idea or plan in mind.
Before I knew it, it was close to 5:00 PM and Harry said he will be here in less than an hour. While Aria was sleeping and I was on my “lunch” break earlier I was able to sneak in some dishes, laundry and a quick shower. My unruly hair from this morning was washed and maintained and I was able to apply the lightest layer of make-up. My outfit of choice for this gathering we were about to have was a pair of basic black leggings, paired with an oversized sweatshirt.
“Mommy, do you know when Daddy will be here?'' She adores her father, a total daddy’s girl. I wish it didn’t make me jealous but knowing that he is her favorite person pulls at my heartstrings a bit.
“ I think he’ll be here shortly, Bubs. Why don’t we get you changed in your comfy pjs so when daddy gets here, you guys can watch a movie?”
I gave Aria a quick bath to help her fever settle down. Her fever has been on and off for most of the day; but it seems as though it was getting back to normal for the last hour. She picked out her favorite waffle knit pajamas to wear with the pink and red hearts. She swore up and down that they were her movie watching pajamas & that they were the most comfy for “lounging around”. By the time Aria and I made it back into the living room, Harry had arrived.
I walked to the front door with Aria in my arms & by the time I opened the door she couldn’t jump into Harry’s arms quick enough. There he stood with his work attire on: a pair of dress pants and a button down shirt paired with his matching tie. The young frat boy has turned into a businessman, Harry followed in his fathers foot footsteps and is now a partner in his fathers law firm. His hair looks like it’s been freshly cut, but a few curls still peak out on the top.
“ Hi Bubby, I’m so happy to see you.” A smile is plastered across Harry’s face, he’s always been a proud father. He always says that Aria lights up his world, and that she in fact saved him and has made him a better man. The same smile he gives Aria, is a similar smile that he used to shine at me, those pearly whites were once my weakness.
-
Harry so kindly brought over Chinese for the 3 of us, the three of us scattered on my dining room table. Harry and Aria spike up most of the conversation, Aria tells Harry all the letters and colors that she’s learned at school so far and what she thinks her classmates worked on today without her. It amazes me watching the two of them interact together, it’s almost as if I’m seeing double: Aria is so much like Harry in so many different ways: between their smiles, the way their nose scrunches up while them are really focused in on what the other is saying, to they way they chew at the the same time or how they both furrow their brows the same exact way.
-
After dinner, I excused myself to flip some laundry as well as clean the kitchen up from the day's mess. Harry and Aria are now sprawled out in the living room watching Lilo and Stitch, Aria is laid out in between Harry’s legs, with her back to him while his hands are laid in her lap. Every so often I catch Aria holding her fathers hand and even planting kisses on them. Aria’s love and admiration for her father makes Harry a little bit more bearable, he is someone I will always love but I fell out of love many years ago after everything he had put me through: the lies, the cheating, the girl, the uncertainty… It was all just too much.
-
It’s a little after 8:30 PM now, Aria fell asleep watching the movie with Harry and he insisted he would take her to bed and do her nightly routine with her which consists of cuddles and reading a book, if we ever skip this step she never has a good night's rest. I hear soft snores coming from her bedroom which indicates that Harry can handle her nightly bedtime routine and he will be leaving shortly, which allows me some alone time before the end of the day.
-
“ She’s fast asleep now…” a soft smile has taken form on Harry’s tired face.
“ Looks like she isn’t the only one that needs to be put to bed” I begin walking him to my front door, to kindly let him know that I would like for him to leave, however, he asks if we can have a talk.
Harry and I walk back over to my living room as I take a seat on my sectional and he sits across from me. The expression on his face indicates that he’s nervous and is testing the waters out before he opens his mouth.
“ I’ve been seeing someone…” is what he blurts out with. “I’ve been seeing her for a while now and I would like to know if it’s okay if I introduce her to Aria.” His words take me by surprise, one of our initial rules was that we would not introduce Aria to anyone unless we thought it was serious and up until now it had not come up. For whatever reason, his confession stings a little bit. I was under the impression that Harry wasn’t really into keeping anything serious or that’s at least what his mother gossips to me about. Anne and I always had a very close relationship, even after everything that had happened between Harry and I.
“Uhmmm, yeah…” my heart starts pounding a little quicker than usual and I’m hoping Harry can’t hear it.
“ Her name is Elizabeth, she works in the same building as I do at the accounting office across the hall from my law firm… she’s the receptionist there. She’s really great, and makes me really happy. I’d like for them to meet this weekend… I’m going to my parents for dinner and they’ll be meeting Elizabeth for the first time too.”
“ Har, I’m happy to hear you’re happy. If you feel as though this is someone you would like to introduce Aria to, then go ahead… under one condition.” I can see Harry’s once anxious demeanor break and a look of curiosity takes over him.
“Under no circumstances and I mean none, are you to have any sleep overs with this girl while Aria is there. If I find out from our daughter that you had a woman sleeping over while she is there… I promise you Harry, I will raise hell.” A slight nod is always I get out of him before he speaks again. “ Understood… thank you.” Call me traditional, however, I don’t think it’s appropriate to have girls in and out of the house while our daughter is there.. Even if they are dating but knowing Harry, he can sometimes spin the truth.
“I’m gonna go… I have a long day tomorrow.” I nod and get up to walk Harry out of my house. As we approach the door, I gently open it for Harry to walk through.
“ Have a goodnight, Har. Thank you again for dinner.”
As Harry walks out my door and into his car, all I see is the young guy that I grew-up with and wonder how things went so wrong for us. My heart aches for what ifs? What if we did end up being the end game, would Aria be happier? Would I be happier? Would we have regular family dinners and have family vacations and family traditions?
I wiped those ideas out of my heart as quickly as they came, because I did not get to where I am in life harping on the past. I, Alena, do not sit around and feel sorry for myself or what my life currently is versus what I once dreamed of it being.

You were Harry’s neighbor. And someone that crawled her way through Harry’s life. But you thought the world of him, what happens when you realize he doesn’t? He loses you. And he’s lost.
Containing : Mostly Angst, some fluff. Friends to Enemies to Idiots to lovers.
Pairing : You and Harry styles
You pushed open the glass doors and stomped out in the night. You wanted to scream out in the traffic, instead, you just groaned loudly. You didn't want this, you didn't want to be near him. It was just too painful to just be in his presence. Why was your mom doing this to you? Didn't she remember how you broke down near her feet as you told her everything? You hated him with every fiber of your being. You hated his beautiful green eyes. You hated his deep voice. You hated his curls, and you hated his citrus shampoo.
You wanted him to leave you alone.
But that didn't happen.
You quickly tried to get rid of your unshed tears as you heard heavy footsteps. Sighing, and taking a few steps forward, you stared into the traffic and listened to the horns. "Y/n-"
"I'm not going with you."
"I was thinking about the same thing. But you won't get a taxi in this traffic. You might wanna-"
You turned around sharply and looked at him. "I don't care! I'll find my way but I don't need you to take me, got it?" You said loudly enough to strike Harry of your anger but not enough to attract any attention. "Y/n please, I don't want you getting hurt." He said softly. You scoffed, the nerve of this guy. "You don't want me to get hurt? That's something I've never heard of!" You said coldly. Harry winced, your voice that he remembered to be so sweet was suddenly so unfeeling. His heart hurt more when he realized this was his doing.
He looked at you, "Please, Y/n." He whispered and took a step towards you. "Let me just take you home, and I won't bother you."
"Please! Why would I want to be a bother to you! Remember how seeing me pains you?" You cried. Harry clenched his jaw, remembering his own words. You were sniffling and shaking, you just wanted to rest. Harry took a careful step again, seeing that you were going to cry, he quickly took you in his embrace. You wanted to get out, you wanted to get out but you were too weak at the time. "No! No, no." You hit his chest, but he ran a hand through your hair and breathed in.
"Shhh, Shh. Calm down, baby." He cooed. You hated this, but you just wanted to let go and collapse onto his chest and sleep. "Let's go, yeah? Let's go." He said and half-carried you to his bike. You whimpered as you sat on his bike. He kissed your forehead, sitting on the bike, he gently took both of your hands and wrapped them around his waist so you would be leaning on his back. You sighed as you rested your body on his back, you took in a long breath of his scent with the fresh air, and closed your eyes. "It's going to be okay. Ok?" He said and started the engine.
You just remembered how the wind combed through your hair, and Harry's cologne.
.....
You felt warm. You felt relaxed. You felt covered and comfortable. You exhaled through your nose, moved, and laid there. You breathed in and exhaled calmly, your lungs being filled with the scent of jasmine and gasoline. Dewdrops, and a hint of gasoline. It reminded you of home. You sighed and looked up to the ceiling. Wait a minute. You suddenly got up and looked around. You were home. You got off the bed and looked around. Not a thing had changed.
You chuckled and bit the tip of your thumb as you saw the small drawings you made on the walls. The polaroids you stuck above your desk. You briefly ran your hand on them and then turned around, only to be met with the window. The window that had your daisies, the window from which you would talk to him, the window that held so many bittersweet memories.
You stepped towards it, touching the pink curtains that you loved. It reminded you of how you were not embarrassed to be yourself. You bit your lip, you hoped that the daisies you planted were not dead, but they were likely. You sighed and grabbed them and opened them. You were hit with a ray of sunshine. You covered your eyes with your hand and then smiled, your heart filling with joy. Home. You chuckled quietly and looked down only to be shocked when you saw your daisies quite lively.
"Oh my god!" You said, your voice low. You gently touched them and smiled. They were blooming, just like you were. It felt so good to be home. You looked up and your breath hitched when you saw his window. His curtain was open and he was pacing around, brushing his teeth. Shirtless. You took in a deep breath, as you stared at him. You tried to look around, but damn, when did he get so ripped.
You coughed rapidly trying to shrug off your thoughts. What the fuck was that?
You looked away, flushed when Harry noticed your cough. His eyes widened and he quickly put a shirt on, gargled and came to the window. "Hey-"
"I'm going to the hospital, thanks for last night, but that's it." You said sharply. Your heart clenched when you saw his pained expression. "Yeah," He whispered. "Bye." You turned around and breathed heavily, this is not a time to cry. You needed to shower. You quickly showered, put on a white top and a flannel, and headed straight towards the hospital. You sighed and got out of your house, a sneeze sneaking up your nose. You knew you shouldn't have washed your hair, you cursed. You looked around waiting for a taxi.
You rolled your eyes. You forgot that taxi's didn't roam at your part of town, you'd either go by your bicycle or...Harry would take you. But that was long ago. You looked around, shit, how were you gonna go to the hospital.
"You need a ride?"
You swore loudly again, your heart jumping. You looked in front of you, to see none other than Roger Brown. "You live here?" You ask him. "Well, good morning to you too miss," He snarled sarcastically. You rolled your eyes and raised your eyebrows. "Yes, I live here. Now, do you want a ride?"
You shook your head. "Why didn't you tell me? You could've taken me home.."
"Now, now. Doesn't that seem forward?" He said, and winked. You gave a not-so amused look and suddenly came forward, opening the door harshly and then sitting in it. You resisted the urge to smirk when you saw his priceless, alarmed, caught off guard expression.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" He shook his head and put on a charming smile. "You are something." He said and fired the engine but as you heard it, you bit your lip. You looked outside the window, your head leaning on your hands and you kept them on the window sill and your hair literally flying when he drove off...and not noticing the pained expression on Harry's face as he watched you both drive off.
.....
Harry sighed as he plopped down on his bed. His mind was hurting from overthinking. He massaged his temple, and closed his eyes. But every time he closed his eyes, you would haunt him. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw you. You biting your lip, you smiling and giggling, you in his purple football shirt that's too big for you, you being shy, you when you were 15, you when you were 9 and begging him to come with him at the carnival. And you as you looked today, so, so beautiful. Just you.
He didn't know what was happening to him.
When he saw you last night, his heart leaped out of his chest. The first time his eyes met yours, he felt like he couldn't breathe. Your eyes were so mesmerizing, their shade was amazing. It was like a beautiful painting that had come to live. And even if you were so exhausted and traveled so far, you still looked so fucking pretty.
Harry gulped and opened his eyes. What was he thinking? He breathed in, and got up. He clenched his jaw when he thought of that doctor who offered you a ride. He rolled his neck, it was nothing. They're just friends.
And what gives you the right to be angry at her? His mind scowled at him. He knew that. He had no right to be upset at that, you can be with anyone you like. He ran a hand through his hair. Anyone.
That didn't exactly sit well with him. He shook his and weakly got up. He cuddled into his shirt, that had your scent all over it. It made him feel comfortable.
Harry snapped back, and walked down the stairs. "Hey dipshit! Did you know y/n's back?!"
"Gem-"
Harry cleared his throat and awkwardly stared at the ground as Gemma asked him. "Why are you acting strange-" He avoided her gaze. He really didn't want her to know he had already met you, in the kind of conditions no one would anticipate. He embarrassingly pouted when Gemma gasped, realization hitting her. "You already knew?! Is she here yet?! Dude!" She yelled but seeing as Harry looked more guilty, she tilted her head. "You've already met her, haven't you?"
.....
Harry rolled his eyes as his sister practically ran at the hospital when he told you what exactly had happened, except a few details here and there. He walked slowly behind her but she scoffed at him and took grasp of his hand, practically dragging him. He yelped when he was about to hit a wall. "Gemma-Could you-ahh! Oh my god, I'm sorry, miss-ah!" He stuttered and apologized to people in between. But then he just gave up and let Gemma drag him.
Harry looked up ahead to see your mother. "Mrs. L/n!!! Help me!" She looked up, alarmed but turned into a grin when she saw Gemma. "Hello dear!" Gemma's face lit up when she saw your mother, and she pulled her hand and hugged your mother. "Hi! How are you? How's uncle?"
"Oh, I'm fine." She dismissed jokingly. "And your uncle is perfect, as he said. He's asleep for now, but he said he wanted ice cream when he woke up. I protested but the doc said it's okay to eat ice cream and stuff now and then, but in a small amount. So, here I am buying cookie ice cream." Gemma giggled. "That's good! Oh and who's the doctor?"
"A guy named Roger Brown, tall, dark, and not that handsome," Harry grumbled. Gemma was taken aback by his response and gave him a weird look, while your mother just slightly smirked. "What?"
"Gemma? Gemma!!" Harry's head snapped into the direction of your voice. He looked at you grin at his sister and run towards her, as she did the same. Harry would've rolled his eyes at you if this were to happen before, but right now Harry was too preoccupied being mesmerized by your shining eyes. He didn't realize he was staring at you, when suddenly he was nudged by your mother.
He cleared his throat, interrupting your hugs and squeals. You furrowed your eyebrows at him as you pulled back from Gemma. "Oh my god, how are you!? And how's LA? Ooh and did you meet any boys???" Gemma rambled while Harry gave her a not-so amused look, greatly annoyed by the last question. You giggled at her, and side-hugged her. "Well, there was someone..." you muttered.
What the fuck?
Who was this someone?
Gemma squealed, "Really?" You shook your head. "Well, not exactly 'was', I just met him yesterday." Harry's ears started ringing. He knew exactly who you were talking to. And he didn't like it. He glared behind you, Dr. Roger Brown was walking his way towards you. Harry watched as you went towards him, a smile etched across your beautiful face, as you introduced him to Gemma. He glared at the way Dr. Roger Brown deeply chuckled, and slightly caressed your waist. He looked at the way you blushed at him, making his heart tighten again.
He hated it, he hated it because that was the way you blushed at him.
.....
"Are you ready?" Your mom asked you. You blushed and looked at yourself in the mirror and twirled, and then turned back to your mom and nodded. Your mom smiled at you, "You're looking beautiful, my love." You smiled at her. "Thanks, mom." She led you by your waist. You walked down the stairs, holding your dress and saw your father standing in the kitchen making a sandwich. "Hello there." He said and you swayed from side to side shyly. "Oh honey, you look beautiful." He said and hugged you. "Come on, your ride is here." You blushed as you realized who your ride was.
You had developed a crush on him, and although you were trying to move on cause somehow you knew that he would never feel the same, your heart beating was fast. You carefully stepped out the door, and walked towards the car, your eyes focusing on the ground.
"Holy fuck." Were Harry's words when he saw you.
You looked up, your eyes shining. Your beautiful dress hung down, and the beautiful lilac shade that you wore made you look brighter, somehow. The innocent off-shoulder neckline adorned with flowers made you look so lovely. And the way your hair was put up just made you prettier. Harry breathed, not knowing why his heart was freaking the hell out.
You looked like a fucking princess.
You looked like such a pretty princess.
Harry gulped in, and then looked at Gemma who nudged him. He looked back at you and bit his lip. "You look v-very beautiful." He said. You blushed under his intense gaze. "Thank you," You said, your voice low. Gemma rolled her eyes at her brother and pushed him towards you. After giving Gemma a 'seriously?' look, he walked towards you and held out his hand out for you to take. You shyly took it and let him lead you towards the car. You sighed as you got in and looked back at your father and waved at him as Harry started the engine. "Bye, have fun, honey!!"
"Thanks dad!"
You smiled prettily and looked in front of you, as Harry drove off in the jeep. You sighed as your heart thudded hard against your chest in the quiet night. Harry looked at you, as the moon shined on you. He breathed in again deeply, not understanding why he was nervous. "Look-" He started to speak. But you just shook your head, knowing exactly what he was going to say. "I know you're going to just dance with me for one song for convenience and then go to your group. Could you just come back when I have to go home and not leave me there?" Harry's words stuck in his throat. He didn't know why but seeing so broken yet smiling made his throat constrict with pain. He nodded at your directness and stayed in silence as you looked outside the window again, lost in your own world.
After you reached the school for the prom. You were surprised but hid it well when Harry got out and opened the door for you. "You don't have to do that just to show, Harry. I don't care." You said, not noticing Harry's taken aback expression. Harry let out an exasperated sigh, gently took your hand, and led you to the hall. You looked at Harry and blushed. He looked so amazing. His long hair was as greasy as ever, making him look hotter, with the suit being a great factor. His green eyes were so beautiful.
You got in the hall and took a deep breath. A bit overwhelmed by the loud music and the lights and all of the students dancing and talking. You took a shaky breath, which Harry noticed, and glanced at you, somewhat concerned. You took in another deep breath when you saw the popular crowd staring at you and Harry judgmentally. You suddenly felt conscious, and you got your hand out of Harry's grip and rubbed the forearm of your other arm, and sighed. You weakly smiled at Harry and gestured at the punch.
"I'm going to get something."
Harry stared at you speeding off. What the hell happened to you? He went towards the crowd in the middle who was dancing and spotted one of his friends, who called him over. He smiled at him briefly and nodded and went over him, hoping that would get his mind over you, but unfortunately it didn't.
You were near the food table, sulking as your hand reached the cheetos. You looked over to the big crowd of people, dancing, singing, laughing. You hated that they never included you. You hated the feeling of loneliness. You hated to pretend that you have Harry and that he's never gonna leave you. But that wasn't true, was it? Nobody ever knew that sometimes you would choke up while trying to keep your tears in, why? Because everybody hated you for being you.
Even the guy that you loved.
Your head shot up. Loved? You internally groaned. Why did this have to happen to you? You stuffed your mouth with more chips and munched on them loudly. But then you froze when you heard someone groan. "Stop stuffing your mouth with chips and let's go, love." He said, his voice disinterested. "Why are you here?" You squeaked out as his hand slowly reached out to your cheek and wiped out of some crumbs.
"Well, I promised you a dance, idiot." You blushed as he said that, and he slightly smirked, kind of knowing what kind of effect he had on you. You looked down, as he led you and gasped as he pulled you close. Your eyes slowly went higher than his chest to his deep green orbs. Harry looked at you and saw you flushed, gaping at him too. He liked the way you blushed at him, knowing that he was the only person who could do that.
.....
Your eyes glanced at Harry, who was already gaping at you, his nose turning red. You scrunched your eyebrows in concern, why was his nose turning red? You looked back at Roger, who smiled back at you. "Nice to meet you, Gemma." He said and turned to you. "I have to get back to my patient, but would you like to join me for Jell-O break at 2 o'clock maybe?" He asked hopefully. You grinned at his requested and nodded. "Sure."
Harry looked away from the scene to the ward where your father laid. He sighed and walked towards it. He looked through the small window to see your father sleeping with a remote in his hand. Harry walked in quietly and stepped towards the bed, and slowly took the remote out of his hands, making sure not to wake him up and kept it on the bedside table. "You know he likes it on, don't turn it off."
"I know." There was a silence between the both of you as your eyes drifted from his figure and your father's, to the window in front of you. You looked at the clouds, the weird shapes and the unique white that coloured them, and the way they were scattered across the blue sky. "Harry." He took in a sharp deep breath and turned at you. "Yeah?"
"Do you really care about my father?" Harry smiled and scoffed. You scrunched up your nose, your heart beating as you found his smile ever so sweet. "Of course, I do." He says, his voice deep. He turned his head to look at your father once again and back at you. You nodded at his reply and felt your mind softening it's opinions about him. "Harry, last night-"
"Can you not call me that?" He asked. You looked at him, confused by his question. "Why?"
"I was so used to you calling me Haz or Curly hair, that I forgot how my name was pronounced out of your mouth." Your ears and cheeks tinted pink at that. You swallowed and bit your lip. "Maybe you have to earn that." Harry's eyebrows raised up, and he turned back to you. "What do you mean?" You sighed deeply and looked around the room, and back at your father sleeping. "You better be true when you say that you care for my father." Is all that you say. "We can be acquaintances." You said and walk out of there.
Harry stood there in shock. Did you just say that and walk out of here? He sighed and looked at the door. You sighed and rested your head on the door. Little did you know, so did he.
At this point in both of your lives, you didn't what was going to happen. It was unclear and confusing to you, yet you both went on. You didn't know the outcome of this, of giving Harry a chance or considering dating Roger, but you just wanted to go with the flow. Overthinking was a sickness that everybody goes through, and right now both of you were literally living it. Your heart always pounded with fear as you thought about your parents, about your father.
You didn't know what was going to happen to him, will life give him a chance or not? Life was unpredictable, and you knew it. You had to live through it. You had to face this. And you weren't the only one, you will have many other people with you. The ones you love. And maybe that included Harry.
.....
You sighed and sat on the bench outside the hospital, your fingers rubbing your forehead. Your mother was asleep, and Gemma had gone home because she had some business to attend to. Harry was beside your father, in case he woke up. You looked at the sky, your head not clear. You were having very negative thoughts. Not about your father, no. About you being a good daughter. When you saw the way Harry cared for your father, your heart ached. What if he was more caring than you? What if you were totally wrong about him?
You didn't remember how it used to be between them.
"Hey."
You looked up, your heart startled. "Roger.." You sighed and got up. Heat crept up your neck and cheeks as he put a loose strand behind your ear. "You look really pale, are you okay?" He said, and immediately his hand went up to your forehead, your eyes widened at him. "Sorry, habit." You laughed softly and pinched Roger's cheeks. He blushed and you kissed his cheek. Roger gazed into your eyes and you felt shy under his stare. You looked into his grey eyes, as storming as ever, but they were not as lively as Harry's.
what the fuck. Your breath hitched and you suddenly stepped back as you tried to clear your head. Roger broke out of his trance. To give you space he stepped back a bit. What the hell was that? You looked back to Roger who looked at you, concerned. "Y/n, are you sure you're okay?"
You nodded quietly. He briefly touched your shoulders- and then caressed your cheek. "Anyway, are we on tonight?"
You smiled at him, "Definitely."
Suddenly, you heard his beeper go out. "I'm sorry, I have to go." You shook your head and gestured for him to go on. He looked at you and smiled wholeheartedly- but you gasped when he suddenly grabbed your neck and kissed your cheek. "Wish me luck!" He ran back.
You stood there, shocked for two seconds, and then chuckled. You walked off, touching your cheek, excited for your date.
.....
You stood there behind the crowd, hiding near the extra chairs. You could not bear to look at the cluster of people who danced around, happy while you felt so...empty.
After that dance, Harry saw Cassie- the popular cheerleader person. You, personally thought that she was not a good person at all. You remembered all the times she made you the center of attention and laughed at you because of your lack of friends which you tried to deny, but you didn't. For this guilty feeling stuck in your throat, telling them that Harry was your best friend will not make Harry happy.
Was he even your friend?
You looked around, the loud music making you uneasy. This is what you aren't supposed to feel. Be normal, they say. You're supposed to be accompanied by your date- rather your alleged best friend.
Why were you still pretending?
You hated feeling lonely at heart, when you knew nobody was on your side, beside you, supporting you. You already knew- but you still pretended, perhaps because you loved him too much and didn't want to let him go, or because you didn't want to feel like that.
And the longer you tried to hide your feelings for him, the harder it hit you that he wasn't truly your friend at all.
