These last few days the desire to write a post-canon klance fic has been torturing me. Since it's YOUR FAULT (lovingly), do you have any tips on how to effectively do it? :) thank you and please continue putting those two idiots in a blender 🫶🏼
first off i am so sorry to have made you wait this long for an answer, i do hope the desire for post-canon klance hasnt left you in that time!!!!
also, thank you!!!!!! im SOOOO glad to be at fault HAHAHA
im not sure i can actually give tips on how to effectively do it, however i can tell you what i try to keep in mind while writing, which is also what draws me to it :-)
- having to bend the characters a bit. depending on what timeframe you’re writing in, the characters have bound to have changed. while they’re still themselves at their core, the edges may have softened (or gotten rougher? that’s up to you!), but they’ve certainly grown after the war ended. where are they different? where do they stay the same?
- Where Are They Now? and also, are they happy with it? – this can be so so so juicy for plot reasons and also just to add some seasoning to the story
- so much fun with the setting! you have every vld show setting at your disposal. a whole made universe as well. and of course. every single place on earth! you can really, truly go ham with where you want your story to take place
- lingering feelings? or is this new? – there’s a lot to play with in terms of how these characters felt about each other during canon and how that might’ve developed in the time since then
- relationships – what has changed since canon? are they all still friends, do they see each other regularly? have some of them moved halfway across the world and they only see each other once a year or less? i imagine they face the same struggles we face as we grow and age, with moving for school and jobs and barely finding time for each other even though you really want to see each other. also, is anyone dating someone? did any of them have a long or short term relationship since canon? how did their friendships progress?
- when do you wanna set it? depending on when you want to set the story, you can play more with the characters or their past. personally, i think klance in their thirties is the most juicy, which is something like ten years after the war and tbh i just think this is fun as hell
